The government delegate in Catalonia assures that “Spain will not forget the Terres de l'Ebre”
Tarragona, November 19, 2024.- The government delegate in Catalonia, Carlos Prieto, met this Tuesday with the mayors of the municipalities of Montsià affected by the DANA that took place at the end of October and the beginning of November.
First of all, Prieto visited the town hall of Alcanar where he met with the mayor, Joan Roig, and the president of the Regional Council of Montsià, Sergi Guimerà. Afterwards, he traveled to La Ràpita and visited with the first deputy mayor, Marc Brunet, the Museum of the Ebro Sea that was flooded during the DANA and where he served journalists before meeting with the Council of Mayors of the Regional Council of Montsià.
AID AFFECTED DANA
The government delegate has assured that this DANA “verifies the effects of climate change and that it has devastating consequences” that still hit especially the Valencian community “where the Spanish government continues to work with thousands and thousands of troops”.
Prieto has said that the government gave a quick response in the form of a Royal Decree of measures “to respond to the damages generated by the DANA that was directed specifically in the Valencian municipalities”. In this sense, he wanted to make it clear that, in Tarragona, the damages caused by DANA in Catalonia “fortunately” are not included within this Royal Decree, since this decree only affects those municipalities where there have been fatalities.
Even so, he wanted to convey to the mayors of the Regional Council of Montsià a message of “tranquility since the Government of Spain will support in all the municipalities affected by DANA”. “The Government of Spain will not forget the Terres de l’Ebro”, he said and reminded the mayors that the agreement of the Council of Ministers subsequent to the Royal Decree of Valencia that was published to the BOE on November 7 does include all the Catalan municipalities within the Zone Seriously Affected by a Civil Protection Emergency. Thus, it will respond to the needs derived from this climatological episode.
The mayors thanked the delegate for his presence and regretted that the frequency of these episodes is increasingly frequent, while the delegate invited everyone to “rethink” the spaces near the coasts, rivers and other areas and flood areas by taking measures to avoid the catastrophe.
The mayors also thanked the delegate for the calls, support and accompaniment during the days of the DANA, lamenting the problems they encounter every time a downpour of this magnitude arrives and highlighting the improvements in infrastructures that the Government of Spain has made and that have prevented the collapse of some roads that were previously blocked.
