Barcelona, March 9, 2023.- The Government Delegation in Catalonia hosted this Thursday the round table 'Women in the professional world: success stories', which counted on the participation of four women leaders in the professional world.
The Government delegate, M. Eugènia Gay, has moderated a debate together with the lawyer and president of the Commission Mujer y Empresa PIMEC, María Teixidor; the CEO of Savills Barcelona, Anna Gener; the president of Guitart Hotels and Fundación Climent Guitart; Cristina Cabañas and, the CEO of the Pometa, Laia Rogel. All of them have shared their experiences of female leadership and have analyzed the challenges of the future as well as the actions necessary to continue consolidating female participation in today’s society.
The delegate has initiated the event highlighting the commitment and responsibility that the Government of Spain is carrying out in equality policies to raise awareness and give impetus to gender equality, and has stressed that "it is essential to continue adding efforts to achieve real and effective equality between men and women".
During the colloquium, the participants explained their experience in their respective fields and warned of the importance of eliminating inequalities for the new generations as well as the need for them to have referents.
Likewise, all of them have agreed to highlight the difficulties that have been found to access the high-level professional world as this is a world “very masculinized and with too many prejudices”. They have stressed that motherhood has always been a turning point and that it has repercussions on problems of conciliation, highlighting that 63% of the time of a working woman dedicates it to unpaid tasks.
During the debate, the importance of companies having an equality plan that serves as a roadmap to ensure parity in business structures has also been stressed.
Although the four speakers have stressed that “much work remains to be done”, they have also agreed that the future is “hopeful”, that the “mission” is shared and that they will continue to work “hand in hand” to achieve more opportunities for the new generations of women.
The event was also attended by the subdelegate of Girona, Albert Bramon; the subdelegate of Lleida, José Crespín, and a wide representation of different areas of the business world, most of them women.
This colloquium is part of the different actions and activities around equality that the Delegation has programmed within its ‘Lilac Week’ to commemorate International Women’s Day.
