The visit has begun in the City Council of the town where it has been received by its mayor, Eduard Rivas, and by the first deputy mayor and coordinator of the Area of Social Rights and Citizenship, Juan Jury.
After the signing of the book of honor, they held a brief meeting in which the delegate knew first-hand the work of the Consistory to contribute to the growth of this millenary municipality located in the heart of the Natural Park of Montserrat and enjoying a great cultural and theatrical heritage.
In the meeting that Gay has held with members of the local government, he has highlighted the government’s commitment to the municipal world.
After the meeting, they traveled to the Teatre de la Passió and during the tour, the president of the Patronat de la Passió, Enric Galcerán, explained to the delegate the importance of the Passió d´Esparraguera and how, after 400 years of existence, it remains the most important cultural and social symbol of the town, gathering every Holy Week, and with a total of nine performances, more than 15,000 spectators.
The Passió d´Esparraugera is the heir to a centuries-old popular tradition that dates back to the Middle Ages and that has survived thanks to the care and effort of the citizens who, over the centuries, have been able to adapt it to the new times.
One of the main characteristics of “La Passió” is its duration, unusual in the current theater. The show is structured in two parts: one in the morning and one in the afternoon, with a lunch break. The show is structured in two parts: in the morning the public life of Jesus is represented and, in the afternoon, his passion, death and resurrection.
The day ended with a visit to the Vila Viniteca, one of the most important wine distributors in Europe and which has its logistics warehouse in Esparraguera with a capacity for 6,000 pallets. The deputy to the management, Joan Ros, has been in charge of explaining to M. Eugènia Gay the different winegrowing projects of the association that, currently, enjoy accredited national and world recognitions.
