Nicanor Sen attends the ceremony of delivery of the Cervantes Prize to the Leonese Luis Mateo Díez

April 23, 2024. The delegate of the Government in Castilla y León, Nicanor Sen, attended on Tuesday the award ceremony of the Cervantes Prize 2023 to the Leonese writer Luis Mateo Díez that took place in the Paraninfo of the University of Alcalá de Henares, presided over by King Felipe VI.
The delegate has applauded the recognition that elevates the Leonese writer to the summit of Spanish letters thanks to an “exceptional literary quality that has served him to rise up twice with the National Narrative Award -The Source of the Age (1987); The Ruin of the Sky (2000)-, among many others”.
Nicanor Sen has highlighted the brilliance of Díez praising “the indisputable mastery of language, with its own style and great originality”, as well as his “ability to offer continuous and new challenges to the reader, whom he catches in his creative universe”.
“The award that Luis Mateo Díez has received today is a recognition of his talent, his dedication to literature and the great legacy that he leaves to Spanish lyrics and future generations,” said Sen.
Luis Mateo Díez (Villablino, León) has an extensive literary career that has consolidated him as one of the great narrators of the Castilian language, heir of the Cervantine spirit, writer against all adversity, creator of imaginary worlds and territories, as highlighted in the minutes of the jury of the Cervantes Prize, presided over by Santiago Muñoz Machado, representative of the Spanish Royal Academy.
