Employment in the tourism sector increased in March by 5.3% compared to the same month of 2023 in Castilla y León and exceeded 77,300 affiliates

Madrid, April 17, 2024. Tourism employment already accounts for 13.1% of the total membership of the country's economy, which together grew by 3% for that month.
The Minister of Industry and Tourism, Jordi Hereu, highlighted "the strong increase, again, in the number of salaried workers in the tourism sector, an example of how the sector is being reinvented based on more and better jobs, fundamental pieces in an increasingly modern and cutting-edge industry, in line with the high standards demanded by customers".
In addition, the holder of the Tourism portfolio has advanced on Wednesday the arrival data of international air passengers, "which as happens with the affiliation, continue to beat monthly records, with 7.6 million passengers arrived on international flights in the month of March".
In March, the number of employees in the tourism sector increased by 7.1% compared to the same month of the previous year and represents 81.8% of the total number of affiliated workers in that sector. By branch of activity, salaried employment increased in travel agencies and tour operators (9.2%) and in hospitality (7.5%).
Self-employment in tourism, which represents 18.2% of the total number of affiliated workers, increased by 1.8%. In hotel and catering activities, the number of self-employed workers increased by 0.8% and in travel agencies there was a 7.4% year-on-year increase in the number of self-employed workers.
Sector-wide increases
The increase in absolute terms, in March, was 157,035 new workers in high employment compared to the same month of the previous year. A growth, which as usual in recent months, affects all branches of activity in the tourism sector.
While in the hospitality industry the increase was 106,597 participants (35,593 in accommodation services and 71,004 in food and beverage services), in the travel agencies it reached 5,415. The rest of the tourist activities also recorded a joint increase of 45,023 workers.
Baleares is once again the one that grows the most
Employment in all the hotel and travel agencies and tour operators increased in all the Autonomous Communities in the month of March, except in Ceuta and Melilla. In relative terms, it highlights - as already happened in February - the year-on-year increase of the Balearic Islands (10.5% more).
In absolute figures, the largest increases were in Andalusia (22,763 more affiliates), Catalonia (18,494 new affiliates), the Valencian Community (12,740 more affiliates), Madrid (with an increase of 11,481 affiliates) and the Canary Islands (with an increase of 11,206).
