April 4, 2024. The Minister of the Interior, Fernando Grande-Marlaska, highlighted on Thursday the increase in police forces in Soria as a sign of the commitment to security in the province, "which is, in short, a commitment to the progress and improvement of an area especially affected by the demographic challenge."
The minister spoke these words during the inauguration of the new headquarters of the provincial commissariat in the Sorian capital, which in the last six years has increased by 38 agents, from 105 to 143 personnel. The facilities have an area of 4,753 square meters and have involved an investment of 9,350,000 euros.
Grande-Marlaska recalled the bicentenary of the National Police, which is commemorated in 2024, to highlight the daily work of the agents during its 200 years of history, which has contributed to making Spain today “one of the safest countries in the world”.
On the construction of the building, the minister has highlighted the architectural commitment to sustainable development and energy efficiency. “Public administrations must take the lead in leading the transcendental changes demanded by a modern society. Sustainability is not an option, but an inescapable commitment,” he said.
The minister thanked the municipal corporation for ceding the land on which the police station is located, a contribution that he described as an “example of institutional collaboration.” The sum of efforts between institutions contributes, in his opinion, to providing the best services. “In addition to being our obligation, it is the raison d’être of the Administrations,” he added.
The minister has been accompanied at the opening ceremony by the general director of the Police, Francisco Pardo; the government delegate in Castilla y León, Nicanor Jorge Sen and the mayor of Soria, Carlos Martínez, among other authorities.
SUSTAINABLE AND ACCESSIBLE DESIGN
The Commissariat, located at number five on León Street and built by Siepse, is made up of two connected buildings. One of them is intended for public attention and offers the services of issuance of the Nationality Identity Document and passports, the office of complaints and citizen care, as well as the Family and Women Care Unit.
A second building, of four floors, houses the police units of the Information Brigades, Judicial Police, Citizen Security, Scientific Police and Aliens, as well as facilities for training and telecommunications. It also has two basements for parking and service facilities.
The two buildings allow the maximum use of natural light and the materials used in the infrastructure respond to the climatic requirements of the city of Soria, in search of greater comfort and efficiency, both for citizens who come to make arrangements and for agents.
The project has particularly affected the environmental criteria under the premise of a construction of Almost Zero Energy Consumption Building (EECN), which has allowed it to obtain the Green rating "4 sheets" through the institution Green Building Council Spain (GBCe).
