March 26, 2024.- The Government subdelegate in Zamora, Ángel Blanco, visited on Tuesday the offices of the National Police Station in Zamora, where two agents of the Policia de Securiança Pública (PSP) of Portugal are assigned to reinforce the service during Holy Week within the European Police Stations project, which allows the formation of mixed patrols between police from different European countries.
Ángel Blanco has met with the Portuguese agents and thanked them for their collaboration with the State Security Forces and Bodies to protect the free exercise of rights and freedoms and guarantee citizen security in Zamora during these holidays. During the meeting, the deputy delegate was accompanied by the Chief Commissioner of the National Police of Zamora, Guillermo Vara; and the Chief Inspector of Citizen Security, Gustavo García.
The functions of the police involved in the European Police Stations project are, among others, to conduct patrols in areas with a greater influx of tourists to prevent crime on the public highway; to make contact with the citizen in general and, in particular, with visitors of their nationalities to assist them in translation work, as well as to help and support citizens' complaints.
The two troops will support the National Police Station in Zamora until Thursday.
Project European Commissioners
The European Commissariats Project was launched in Spain in 2008 in collaboration with France, expanding in 2012 with Portugal, with Italy in 2014 and with Germany in 2020, each year incorporating new displacements due to the good reception both in Spain and abroad.
The French Police Nationale, the Italian State Police and the Portuguese Public Security Police are collaborating in this European initiative with the Spanish National Police. Foreign police officers patrol in their own uniform of service.
Reciprocally, National Police officers are also assigned to locations abroad.
