March 21, 2024.- L a Confederación Hidrográfico del Duero (CHD) will carry out different river restoration works in the Arevalillo river and tributaries, in the province of Ávila, to reduce the risk of flooding in the stretch between the municipalities of Albornos and Papatrigo, affected by the last avenues of the month of January.
This has been confirmed by the president of the Basin Agency, María Jesús Lafuente, in the visit made today, together with the commissioner of Aguas, Diana Martín, and the subdelegate of the Government of Ávila, Fernando Galeano, to the municipalities of Cisla, Albornos, Narros de Saldueña, Papatrigo and San Juan de la Encinilla.
Lafuente has toured the different localities accompanied by the mayors, to know in situ and evaluate the problems and possible solutions in each of the river sections affected.
The actions contemplated are part of the Life IP Duero project, coordinated by the CHD, and consist of recovering the natural floodplains of the Arevalillo River to be able to laminate the water in episodes of avenue.
3 million in the last six years
Likewise, Lafuente has announced a new investment of 1.5 million euros for the next three years, within the program of actions in channels in the province of Ávila.
An investment that is added to one and a half million euros of the budget allocated in the period 2021-2023, by the CHD, for conservation and maintenance of the rivers and streams of the province of Ávila.
In addition, and in relation to the floods in January, the affected areas will be able to benefit from the subsidies managed by the Ministry of Territorial Policy and Democratic Memory for the recovery of damages caused to municipal infrastructures and the provincial road network and that allow to pay 50% of the expenses.
Actions in public channels
In the context of the visit, the Agency has insisted that actions in public channels located in urban areas are the responsibility of the administrations responsible for land management and town planning, that is, the municipalities and, where appropriate, the Autonomous Administration. The same is true of the cleaning and maintenance of the bridges, whose maintenance of their proper drainage conditions, is the responsibility of the owner.
