February 29, 2024.- The Ministry of the Presidency, Justice and Relations with the Courts held this Thursday in Palencia the event "The Justice of Care and Access for People with Disabilities", with the aim of raising awareness of the initiatives promoted in this matter both by the department headed by Félix Bolaños, and by the different autonomous communities with transferred competences and the organizations that work for people with disabilities.
This meeting, which took place at the Lecrác Cultural Center, was held prior to the Sectorial Conference that hosts this Friday the Palentine capital, which will be presided over by the Minister of the Presidency, Justice and Relations with the Courts, Félix Bolaños, and will have the participation of the heads of Justice of the different autonomous communities.
A Justice Centered on People
The event, which has been organized around two round tables, was attended by the Secretary of State for Justice, Manuel Olmedo; the General Secretary for Innovation and Quality of the Public Service of Justice, Sofía Puente; and the General Director of Legal Security and Public Faith, María Esther Pérez, as well as representatives of the regional administrations and organizations such as CERMI, the San Cebrián Foundation Group and Full Inclusion Spain, among others.
During his speech, Manuel Olmedo has highlighted the Justice of Care as a fundamental pillar in the policies that the Ministry is deploying with the objective of making the Administration of Justice a closer public service, friendly and focused on the needs of people.
The Secretary of State has reviewed the projects promoted by the Government to advance accessibility, automation of procedures and immediacy through adapted devices.
In this regard, he referred to the Justice 2030 Plan - elaborated in co-governance with all the CC. AA.-, as well as the amendment of the Regulation of free legal assistance, and the Draft Organic Law of the Right of Defense, and has defended that the Justice of the Care must permeate these laws and operate as a principle informer of all policies in the field of justice.
In addition, Olmedo has welcomed the recent reform of article 49 of the Constitution, the first of social content since the constitutional text entered into force, and has explained that, thanks to the approval of Royal Decree-Law 6/2023, of 19 December, the general access point of the Administration of Justice will respond to the principles of universal accessibility and clarity of information, and will include content aimed at vulnerable groups.
For their part, representatives of CERMI, Fundación San Cebrián and Full Inclusion Spain have explained how projects related to digital proximity, universal accessibility or the figure of the facilitator, whose implementation is also promoted by these organizations, are fundamental to favor access to the public justice service to people with disabilities.
Also, during the third part of the day, representatives of the regional administrations of Justice of Catalonia, Galicia, Canary Islands, Andalusia and Aragon presented the different initiatives they develop in their territories for the Justice of Care, with projects related to the operation of the courts, the accompaniment or assistance to minors, among others.
