February 8, 2024.- The Subdelegate of the Government in Zamora, Ángel Blanco, has presided together with the Mayor of Toro, Rafael González, the Local Security Board held this Thursday in the City Council to reinforce the coordination and collaboration during the celebration of the Carnival, which has been declared a party of regional tourist interest and which this year extends from tomorrow Friday, February 9 to Wednesday 14.
The meeting served to intensify coordination between the Civil Guard, Local Police, Civil Protection, Junta de Castilla y León and the Red Cross to ensure security in the face of the forecast of an increase in the number of visitors and celebrations during these days that may lead to crowds in central areas of the municipality.
The deputy delegate highlighted the good coordination between the Local Police of Toro and the Civil Guard, whom he also took advantage of to congratulate for the extraordinary work he is doing in the province in recent days, during the course of the demonstrations in the agricultural sector.
The Local Security Board is a collegiate body to facilitate the cooperation and coordination, at the territorial level of the municipality, of the Public Administrations in matters of security, specifically ensuring the cooperation and operational coordination of the Security Forces and Bodies that intervene in the municipal term.
Decrease in cases of gender violence and criminality
Regarding the VioGén System, the subdelegate referred to the agreement that the City of Toro signed with the Ministry of the Interior at the end of 2020 to comply with the State Pact against Gender Violence, which should be renewed this year. In addition, it has quantified in more than 36,000 euros the funds transferred to the City Council within this State Pact in the last five years, to develop actions to achieve a society free of male violence.
The active cases of gender violence have decreased by 13% year-on-year in the municipality. Currently, Toro accounts for 8.8% of the active cases of gender violence in the province of Zamora, none of them at high risk. There are 17 women who receive police protection in the municipality due to situations of male violence, in 14 cases by the Civil Guard and in three cases by the Local Police, of which he highlighted his high degree of collaboration.
Ángel Blanco has also highlighted the improvement of the level of security in Toro. The comparison of the last two months (December 2023 and January 2024) with the same period of the previous year (December 2022 and January 2023) shows a decrease in traditional crime of 157%, going from 18 complaints to 7.
