The Government Subdelegation promotes the coordination of the VioGén System, which in 2023 has protected 117 women in Zamora capital
Police Coordination Committee on Gender Violence
January 22, 2024.- The Subdelegate of the Government in Zamora, Ángel Blanco, presided on Monday the Police Coordination Table on Gender Violence, in which representatives of the Violence Unit on Women of the Subdelegation of the Government, the Family and Women Care Unit (UFAM) of the National Police, City of Zamora, Municipal Police of Zamora, Junta de Castilla y León and Red Cross have met to follow up the Internal Violence System
The subdelegate of the Government in Zamora, Ángel Blanco, thanked all the members of the Bureau for their commitment and dedication to the development of the VioGén system in Zamora and stressed that the municipalities of the province have received 2.2 million euros from the State Pact against Gender Violence since 2018, to develop policies to eliminate violence against women. Of these funds, 201,660 euros correspond to the City of Zamora.
The head of the Gender Violence Unit of the Government Subdelegation, Marisa Manso, has highlighted the good level of coordination with which the agreement is being developed and has pointed out the increase in work due to the increase in complaints. Throughout 2023, 438 active cases of gender violence were recorded in the province, 117 of them in Zamora capital.
The year 2023 ended with 15% more active cases than the previous year. The age group where the highest number of cases is recorded is between 31 and 45 years. Currently, there are 187 active cases of gender violence in the province, 67 of them located in the capital.
The meeting took place in the Government Subdelegation. On the part of the City of Zamora, the first deputy mayor and councilor for Economic Promotion and Citizen Participation, David Gago, attended; the councilor for Social Services, Seniors, Equality, Cooperation and Public Health, Auxiliadora Fernández and the head of Social Services, Óscar Alonso Pozo; as well as the mayor head of the Municipal Police, Tomás Antón; Officer Ricardo Abraham Gutiérrez and the municipal agent Leticia Gallego.
On behalf of the UFAM of Zamora, the National Police has participated the chief inspector Ángel Luis del Barrio and the police component of the UFAM in work to protect the victims of gender violence Emilio Benito Costa.
The head of the Social Care, Women and Equal Opportunities area of the Territorial Management of Social Services of the Junta de Castilla y León, Irene Modino, also attended the call. And, on behalf of Red Cross Zamora, the provincial coordinator, Silvia Montalvo; and the head of Women, Alejandra González.
The main objective of this Police Coordination Table is to follow up the agreement for which its members share the incidents, actions carried out, difficulties detected, proposals for improvement, as well as the monitoring of the relevant cases of gender violence existing.
The VioGén System was created in compliance with the provisions of Organic Law 1/2004, of December 28, on Comprehensive Protection Measures against Gender Violence. It is a centralized police system in the Ministry of the Interior, aimed at monitoring and protecting women victims of gender violence and their sons and daughters in any part of the national territory. It collects all police information on victims of gender violence from the State Security Forces and Corps: National Police, Civil Guard, municipal police and autonomous bodies.
