December 26, 2023.- The High Performance Center of León has premiered this month of December the new pavement of the indoor track of athletics, to whose reform the Superior Council of Sports has allocated a budget of 303,695.36 euros.
The new track has been built with materials that guarantee a greater capacity for absorbing impacts, with a balance between comfort and hardness, which will contribute to significantly reduce the risk of overloads and injuries.
In the CAR of León about 200 athletes are trained on a regular basis, half of them athletes. Among them stand out the Olympic heavyweight pitchers Carlos Tobalina and Belén Toimil and the young promise María Forero, European U20 champion on the field across.
In addition, throughout the year more than 1,600 athletes make use of these facilities during the concentrations and periodic activities hosted by the CAR.
“Having better facilities will help us continue to grow as a center and offer means to achieve the best results,” says the director of the León CAR, Daniel Mateos.
With this work, executed in 45 days, the Superior Sports Council continues to consolidate its commitment to improve the training conditions of high-level athletes, turning the High Performance Centers into centers of excellence and sports innovation.
Lion High Performance Center
The León complex was inaugurated in 2010 as a Specialized Center for High Performance Athletics, being already in 2015 when it was reclassified as a High Performance Center (CAR) to become the fourth center of these characteristics of Spain, along with those of Madrid, Sant Cugat (Barcelona) and Sierra Nevada (Granada).
Currently, it has not only high-level sports facilities, but also resources for performance analysis through biomechanics and physiology and services for the protection of the health of the athlete, such as sports medicine, traumatology, cardiology, physiotherapy, rehabilitation and psychology.
In total, about 2,000 athletes make use of the facilities of the CAR of León throughout the year.
