AEMET launches orange warnings for today due to strong winds in all the provinces of Castilla y León
The maximum races are going to range between 90 and 100 km/h
November 2, 2023.- The State Meteorological Agency (AEMET), has issued orange warnings for today, November 2, due to winds in much of Caja y León as a result of the storm ‘Ciarán’ that is going to affect the Peninsula and the Balearic Islands. The General Directorate of Civil Protection and Emergencies of the Ministry of the Interior offers a series of recommendations for this type of meteorological phenomenon.
In Castilla y León, wind gusts can range between 90 and 100 kilometers hour reaching the threshold for the issuance of orange warnings according to the METEOALERT plan. The only exception takes place in the region of Bierzo, south of the province of Salamanca, south of the province of Ávila and Condado de Treviño, in yellow notice. This orange warning due to strong winds will remain active from the first hour of the day.
In addition, the State Meteorological Agency has established yellow warnings for rainfall accumulation in the northwest of the Community and in the Central and Iberian systems. These accumulations can be up to 40 mm in 12 hours in some points of the northwest and 15 mm in 1 hour in the Central and Iberian systems.
As for the snow level, it is between 1,000-1,300 meters in the north and 1,200-1,400 meters in the south, without significant accumulations being foreseen.
In the face of the arrival of the ‘Ciarán’ storm, the General Directorate of Civil Protection and Emergencies of the Ministry of the Interior recommends that the population be kept informed at all times of the possible evolution of meteorological changes. They also make the following recommendations:
RECOMMENDATIONS FOR HEAVY RAINS
- If you’re driving, slow down, take precautions, and don’t stop in areas where a lot of water can flow.
- If you have to travel, try to travel preferably on major roads and highways.
- In case of sudden storms and heavy rains, the place where the vehicles are parked should be taken into account. The rapid rise in water levels can damage vehicles parked in flood areas and, in addition, drag them, causing damage to other people’s property and even hindering the natural flow of the current.
- If it starts to rain torrentially, think that there is a risk of flooding. Do not drive through the flooded sections with your vehicle or on foot, because you do not know what may be underwater and locate the highest points in the area. Don’t try to save your car in the middle of a flood.
- If you are in the countryside, you have to get away from the rivers, torrents and low areas of slopes and hills, avoiding crossing flooded voids. Likewise, you should head to the highest points of the area.
- However, the difficult prognosis of the stormy phenomena makes it advisable to stay informed at all times of the possible evolution of the meteorological changes.
RECOMMENDATIONS FOR STRONG WINDS
- It is advisable to secure doors, windows and all those objects that can fall onto the public highway and move away from cornices, trees, walls or buildings under construction or cranes that can be detached. Also, it is advisable to refrain from climbing the scaffolds without adequate protective measures.
- If you are driving, extreme the precautions, especially in the exit of tunnels, overtaking and crossing with heavy vehicles on two-way roads. Pay attention to the possible presence of obstacles on the road.
