October 17, 2023.- The Coordinating Committee on Trafficking and Sexual Exploitation met this morning to strengthen coordination among institutions to prevent and protect victims.
The meeting was hosted by the Board Room of the Government Subdelegation, two years after the establishment of the Bureau, with members from the Violence against Women Unit and the Office for Foreigners of the Subdelegation, the Office of the Deputy Prosecutor for Foreigners of Segovia, social partners of the Civil Guard and the National Police, the Labour Inspectorate, the Women and Health Sections of the Junta de Castilla y León, Adoratrices (an entity accredited for trafficking), the Red Cross and ACCEM.
The Government’s deputy delegate, Marian Rueda, has opened a new meeting of the working table.
Marian Rueda defined sexual exploitation as “21st century slavery, as is prostitution.”
He stressed the importance of institutional coordination to achieve effective cooperation in the response to trafficking in women, girls and boys for the purpose of sexual exploitation.
The functioning of the Coordinating Committee on Trafficking and Sexual Exploitation is governed by the Framework Protocol for the Protection of Victims of Trafficking (2011), which establishes these meetings to monitor actions related to situations of trafficking detected, to ensure adequate inter-agency coordination. In addition, the Women ' s Violence Units of the Sub-Delegations are responsible for promoting cooperation in the territory with other institutions and administrations, as well as monitoring resources for the care of victims of trafficking.
It should be remembered that since 2007, the European Day against Trafficking in Human Beings has been commemorated every 18 October.
