Thursday, August 17, 2023.- Social Security registered 2,614,921 foreign affiliates in July, once seasonality and calendar effect were discounted. They represent 7,308 affiliates more than a month before. Since February 2020, before the impact of the pandemic, the system has recorded an increase of more than 425,500 workers from other countries.
This figure represents 12.6% of the total number of Social Security participants in July in seasonally adjusted terms.
In Castilla y León, the number of foreigners affiliated to the Social Security is 80,174, taking into account that it is the data of the original series, that is, without seasonalizing. This figure represents an increase of 2,784 (3.60%) compared to the previous month and of 7,971 (11.04%) compared to July 2022.
Average membership
In average terms and without seasonalizing, that is, in the original series, Social Security registered 2,695,240 foreign affiliates this month, which means 3,365 affiliates less than in June. Of the total, 887,531 workers come from European Union countries (33%) and 1,807,709 from third countries (the remaining 67%). The largest groups of employed are from Romania (341,964), Morocco (311,417), Italy (182,964), Colombia (168,520) and Venezuela (145,224). Of the total, 55.6% are men, while 44.4% are women.
In the last twelve months, the average membership of foreign workers has grown by 9.9%, that is, it has added 243,748 employees.
66,300 Ukrainian affiliates
Among other nationalities, there are 66,300 affiliates from Ukraine. This is 19,064 more than in January 2022, when the war had not yet begun, which represents a growth of 40.3%.
The majority of workers from Ukraine, about 87.7%, are in the General System (they are salaried) and 12.2% are self-employed.
In Castilla y León, the number of Ukrainian workers affiliated to Social Security is 1,117.
Regimes and sectors
Overall, 86.6 per cent of foreign affiliates are covered by the General System and account for 2,268,138. In July, most sectors of this regime increased. The most employed were Water Supply (7.3%), Household Activities (6.3%), Administrative Activities (4.5%), Hotel Management (3.9%) and Sanitary Activities (3.9%). On the other hand, the number of participants in Education (-18.8%) and Agriculture (-2.9%) decreased. It also decreased in the Special Agrarian System (-12.4%) and in the Home System (-1.2%).
For its part, the Autonomous System counted 425,185 foreign affiliates. Of the total number of self-employed, 14.9% came from China, 11% from Romania and 9% from Italy.
In Castilla y León, foreign affiliates within the General Regime add up to 70,736. The sector of this regime with the most members is the General with 57,646, followed by the Special Agricultural Sector (7,677) and the Home Sector (5,413). For its part, the number of foreign affiliates in the Autonomous System is 9,438.
