STORY
The Civil Guard was born in the middle of the 19th century, with the Decrees of March 28 and May 13, 1844, when the Duke of Ahumada, founder of the Benemérita, configured a Public Security Corps of a military nature, dependent on the then Ministry of the Interior, in terms of service, and the Ministry of War, in terms of its organization, discipline, personnel, material and perception of assets.
The body of the Civil Guard was endowed with a Military Regulation and another for the Service, which constituted the traditional ‘Cartilla’, a document that modelled the idiosyncrasy of the Civil Guard: discipline, capacity for sacrifice, benevolent spirit and loyalty, characteristics that have given it until today a great effectiveness in carrying out the missions that have been entrusted to it over time.
In addition, his presence in humanitarian activities of all kinds, devoted to honour and rigour in the performance of his service, earned him very soon the respect and admiration of the Spanish people, who came to know him by the nickname of Benemérita, a title that became official from the General Order of 4 October 1929.
The arrival of the Civil Guard in Segovia occurred practically since the foundation of the Corps, since October 25, 1844, when the 3rd Company belonging to the 8th Third was assigned to the province.
There are 208 municipalities, which extend for 6,757 kilometers and where some 102,000 inhabitants live, the territory that covers the Civil Guard in the province.
