The DGT initiates a special campaign to control the condition of vehicles
It will be developed until the next 11 of June
05 de June de 2023.- The General Directorate of Traffic launches from today Monday 5 and until next 11 a special campaign to monitor and control the conditions of the vehicle. The campaign aims to reduce the accident on the roads of Castilla y León.
Both DGT agents and local police from those municipalities that have decided to join the campaign will intensify inspections on passenger cars, freight vehicles, buses, motorcycles and other means of transport. The agents will increase the surveillance on basic maintenance elements such as tires or lighting.
Attention will also be paid to the license plates, which must be perfectly readable and not damaged. The driver must verify that the license plates do not present obstacles that hinder their reading or correct identification.
DGT agents will also pay attention to the obligation to carry basic documentation in addition to the driving licence. The documentation to be reviewed will be the technical data sheet and the driving licence, the technical inspection card of the vehicle and the technical inspection sticker visible.
During the last special campaign of surveillance and control of the conditions of the vehicle, carried out from 10 to 16 October 2022, 1,212 complaints were imposed in Castilla y León. Of this total, 45.8% (556) were related to VTI. By default, 89 complaints were imposed on the tyres, while 90 were related to the documentation. The rest of the complaints were divided between license plates (35), vehicle lighting or signage (21), conditioning or excess of load (53) and other defects (368).
By vehicle type, almost 50% of infringements (602) were related to passenger cars. 494 offences were committed against goods vehicles, 16 against motorcycles, 21 against buses and 79 against other means of transport.
The age of the vehicle is a risk factor because it lacks recently implemented safety systems and equipment, in addition to the problems arising from its use.
The fleet of cars under 25 years of age represents 86% of all vehicles registered, and vehicles under 15 years of age account for 57% of the census.
The risk of death or serious injury is doubled when comparing accidents involving vehicles that are 10 to 15 years old compared to vehicles that are less than 5 years old.
