01 de June de 2023.- The subdelegate of the Government, Pedro de la Fuente, presided this morning the act of handing over the cards of cyberexperts to 495 sixth grade primary school students from seven educational centers that attest to the training received by the National Police of Burgos on the use of the Internet and the management of social networks in a safe way. These are the schools of Burgos CEIP Claudio Sánchez Albornoz (49); CEIP Juan de Vallejo (91); CEIP Ribera del Vena (48); Colegio Río Arlanzón (51); CEIP Solar del Cid (51) and CEIP Fernando de Rojas (152). To these, we must add another 50 of the CP Las Matillas de Miranda de Ebro to reach 545 throughout the province.
The event was presided over by the Government’s deputy delegate, Pedro de la Fuente, and the provincial commissioner of the National Police in Burgos, Jesús María Nogales, and the territorial delegate of the Junta de Castilla y León, Roberto Saiz, among other authorities, also participated. In his speech, De la Fuente indicated that “the new generations were born being digital natives in a world with many virtues, but also great risks that minors have to know, such as avoiding giving personal data on social networks and trusting in strangers”.
“Thanks to this distinction of cyberexperts, they will be able to teach their friends, and even families, what the risks are in the digital world,” he added.
This program is aimed at society in general and at minors, parents and teachers – concerned about what the former experience on the Internet – on a voluntary basis and can be requested through the secure mail@policia.es, on the website or in the citizen participation delegations of the National Police. To achieve its objectives, three actions have been developed: the creation of the web www.ciberexperto.org, training talks given by the Citizen Participation delegates and an awareness and dissemination campaign.
Cyberbullying, grooming, sexting, techno addictions, impersonation and privacy
It is a fact that new technologies have changed the way we communicate and relate to others. On the other hand, the access of minors to the Internet generates doubts in adults about how to face their education is that aspect: cyberbullying, grooming, sexting, technoaddictions, impersonation of identity, privacy, etc., aware not only of the opportunities and possibilities offered by the network but also of the risks it may entail for minors, among other reasons, since in 2013 the National Police launched the Master Plan for Coexistence and Improvement of Security in Educational Centers and their Environments.
It is a training project and an ideal complement to the various preventive actions already carried out by the Citizen Participation delegations. Among the topics taught by these police officers, the most demanded has been the one related to the use of new technologies. During this school year, a total of 110 talks have been given so far in educational centers within the Master Plan (Burgos, Miranda de Ebro and Aranda de Duero), being more requested are those related to the Cyberexpert@ program.
The development of this program seeks to respond to that greater demand for guidance in digital education, and that compiles those topics that most affect our children, as demonstrated by the experience of agents in this field.
The objectives of the program are, fundamentally, to sensitize and train minors to minimize the risks inherent in the daily use of new technologies, to provide tools for safer navigation, to train them for proper communication in social networks and to raise awareness of the importance of privacy both online and offline.
To achieve these goals, three actions have been developed that articulate the Cyberexpert@ project. Firstly, the creation of the website www.ciberexperto.org, where all the information and training material of the program is found and also allows the reporting of risky situations in cattle, especially related to minors. On the other hand, the Citizen Participation Delegates with the support of the Educational Community will carry out awareness-raising and training activities on the safe use of the Internet, all coordinated by the Central Citizen Participation Unit of the National Police. Finally, the Cyberexpert@ program has an online promotion and dissemination campaign, especially on social networks, in addition to the distribution of informative posters and diptychs.
Family and educational environment
The beneficiaries of the program are society in general and, directly, children and the educational and family environment who want to know tools, applications and other technological resources that help them to promote safer navigation.
The students who participate will receive five hours of training in the 10 topics included in the project: cyberbullying, grooming, sexting, identity theft, dangerous communities, access to inappropriate content, management of privacy and digital identity, netiquette and parental mediation. Those students who have successfully developed the program and pass the final test of knowledge will be given a Cyberexpert@ card.
The participation of the educational centers in the project is voluntary and can be requested through the email seguridadescolar@policia.es, on the website or in the Citizen Participation Delegations.
