The government delegate joins the tribute in memory of the 853 victims and recalls the 182 national police and 243 civil guards killed
Toledo.- The delegate of the Government of Spain in Castilla-La Mancha, José Pablo Sabrido, has participated in the act of tribute to Miguel Ángel Blanco, and with him to the other 852 victims of terrorism by ETA. There he lamented the partisan use of the act and insisted that “in terrorism you cannot make politics from one part of society against another”.
In this regard, the government delegate has asked for unity against terrorism and recalled that “ETA is not a problem of parties, it is a problem that Spanish society was able to solve”, also alluding to the more than two and a half million demonstrators “who represented all kinds of politics, religious beliefs, colors, etc.” Along the way, he has charged those who “use terrorism to go against each other” and criticized that this confrontation is “something that society does not demand”.
182 national police officers and 243 civilian guards killed
The government delegate wanted to remind the 182 national police officers and the 243 civilian guards victims of terrorism, among the total of 853 victims that ETA accumulated.
A terrorist group “that ended more than 15 years ago, thanks to God, the State Security Bodies and Forces, and thanks to the policies of Alfredo Pérez Rubalcaba and José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero”, which culminated in the disarmament and surrender of ETA in 2011: “This is what society wanted at the time,” he concludes.
“What you can’t do is maintain the hatred of one against the other”
The government delegate has celebrated that one of the demands of that time, which was that terrorists stop killing and defend their ideas democratically, has been fulfilled. “That was the great achievement of this society,” he said.
Sabrido has opted to continue on the path of dialogue remembering that there are even politicians within the Popular Party who say, in relation to different political options, that “although they repudiate us, we must negotiate with them because they represent an important part of the Basque Country”, to which the government delegate added that “this does not mean in any case cession to terrorism”.
“I believe and claim at this moment not to forget the victims of terrorism and not to turn the page because we do not forget them, but to build a society of the future without anyone having to reproach us for terrorism against each other,” said Sabrido, who concluded by saying that he agreed to the organization of events in memory of all the victims of ETA.
