Toledo.- The Government Delegation has presented the events that will be held in the museums belonging to the State that are located in Toledo. The government delegate, José Pablo Sabrido, has offered a press conference to report on this with the director of the Sephardi Museum, Carmen Álvarez, the director of the Greco Museum, Carolina Tobella, the director of the Army Museum, Brigadier General Francisco Germán Martínez, and the jede of Diffusion of the Historical Archive of the Nobility, Alejandro Sierra.
The ‘International Museum Day’, which is celebrated on Monday, May 18, will this year have the motto of ‘Museums uniting a divided world’. A slogan highlighted by the government delegate, for whom museums carry out “essential” work and which shows that museums seek to contribute to dialogue, understanding and peace.
“Museums must work together to highlight the importance of culture, heritage and the history of the people,” explained Sabrido, who highlights the motto chosen by the International Council of Museums, which has been in existence for 80 years and has set 18 May as the date to commemorate the role of museums.
Both the government delegate and the directors of the museums have agreed that this is a manifestation of collaboration between different administrations, to which Sabrido added that “Toledo is culture, it is history and it would not be the same without them”.
Activities to be carried out
The main activity will take place next Monday, May 18 at the Sephardic Museum, where the presentation of the sculpture ‘Adam’ by the artist Martina Lasry, one of the main contributors to the development of the museum, will take place.
Its director, Carmen Álvarez, has thanked the Delegation for having coordinated institutional cooperation and has opted to “reclaim what is a museum and bring it closer to society”. Álvarez explained that Lasry’s sculpture signifies the union between the masculine and the feminine in the Sephardic world, and in this context he praised its author as “an example of understanding between cultures”.
In addition, he has highlighted a virtual exhibition, present throughout the month of May and under the motto ‘Old words, dialogues present. From medieval Toledo to today’, which has the support of the Ministry of Culture.
The Museo del Greco will be added to this presentation, in addition to having a participatory mural in which the visitor will be able to indicate from which place in the world he has come to visit the museum.
“We wanted to make all the visitors of the museum participate”, highlights the director, Carolina Tobella, on the mural made by the illustrator Alicia Warhola, where you can also find the main works of El Greco distributed around the world, in a tour of her trip from her native Crete to Toledo.
On the other hand, he insisted on thanking the support given by the Delegation “to all the museums of the city”, stressing that “this is the first time we do it in a joint and united way”.
The Army Museum has highlighted the commemorative motto of this year’s ‘Museum Day’, ‘Museums uniting a divided world’, “in the sense of the possibility of being able to use culture as a small contribution to another much more complex area such as diplomacy and foreign relations”, according to its director, Francisco Germán Martínez.
The brigadier general highlighted the exhibition that currently takes place in the museum, where you can observe the contribution of Spain to the development of the United States, explaining that it is “a small sample of the contribution that we can make museums”.
Finally, from the Historical Archive of the Nobility they have thanked their invitation because, although it is not a museum as such, “it is a very interesting initiative since it is one of the most unknown heritage”, according to the head of Diffusion, Alejandro Sierra.
Finally, José Pablo Sabrido highlighted the cooperation between museums and Delegation and said that “they have been able to highlight the intention of the International Museum Day, which is the patrimonial, cultural and historical value”, in addition to sending a message of encouragement to the citizens, since “visiting museums visit heritage, culture and history, but visit future. A united future.”
