Cuenca.- The delegate of the Government of Spain in Castilla-La Mancha, Milagros Tolón, presided today in Cuenca the inauguration of Commissioner Francisco Sánchez Lozano, who assumes the Headquarters of the Provincial Commissariat of the National Police in Cuenca, and whom the delegate of the Government has congratulated and welcomed, “you and your family, to this land that has always been your home. Cuenca welcomes you today with open arms. For me, as a delegate of the Government, it is a satisfaction to accompany you in this beginning of stage that represents a new impulse to the shared commitment to security, justice and coexistence in Cuenca”.
Milagros Tolón has been accompanied by different authorities, such as the subdelegate of the Government in the province of Cuenca, M. Luz Fernández; or by the Superior Chief of Police of Castilla-La Mancha, Javier Pérez Castillo.
A fairer and safer country
The government delegate stressed that, with more than 200 years of history, “the National Police represents not only the guarantee of our security, but also one of the fundamental pillars of our rule of law. It is a guarantor of our freedoms and has been, and continues to be, an indispensable force for building a fairer, safer and freer country. In that model of country that we have all built, the role of the National Police and the State Security Forces as a whole is fundamental. Because more security is more prosperity and well-being for our fellow citizens.”
Milagros Tolón recalled that “today we can proudly say that Spain is one of the safest countries in the world. So is Castilla-La Mancha, and the city of Cuenca in particular, where conventional crime has fallen by 25.7% from January to March compared to the same period of 2024, and the global crime rate is almost 10 points below the national average.”
But the role of the National Police “goes far beyond the maintenance of order and the prosecution of crime. You are always at the side of the citizenry, especially in the most difficult times.”
Because the challenges they face “are increasingly complex and demanding: the protection of the most vulnerable groups, the fight against organized crime, terrorism, cybercrime, hate crimes, gender violence or new threats arising from climate change. Overcoming them successfully is not just a victory for the police force; it is an achievement of the whole of society. Every operation, every investigation, every intervention brings us closer to a safer society with more future.”
Reinforcement of human and material resources
The delegate of the Government clarified that “there is still much to do and, therefore, the Government of Spain continues to strengthen human and material resources. In Castilla-La Mancha, the workforce of the National Police has grown by 20% in the last seven years, and with the new offer of public employment, with 2,707 new places, this effort will be continued.”
He also said that “we are firmly committed to improving the infrastructure, as demonstrated by the construction of the new Cuenca Police Station, which already allows us to provide a more modern, more efficient and closer service after an investment of around 10 million euros”.
Milagros Tolón praised the work of the new commissioner, “dear Paco, you arrive again in Cuenca with an exemplary trajectory, recognized for your professional merits, your leadership capacity and your closeness, with an express commitment to the fight against gender violence, as shown by your curriculum. That experience will be key to tackling present and future challenges with solvency.”
Because, insisted the delegate, “you go back to your house, where you have never left. And you wanted to take office here, in the same building where, as a child, you dreamed of being a policeman, like your father. You must be proud as are your daughters, your parents and your wife, Conchi, also a national police officer and also an excellent professional.”
For this reason, “I am sure that your work will be marked by loyal collaboration with the other institutions and with the State Security Forces, Civil Guard and local police. Cooperation is essential to ensure the safety and tranquility of our neighbours and neighbours.”
Gratitude to the National Police
Milagros Tolón reminded him that from the Delegation and the Subdelegation of the Government “you will always find dialogue, support and commitment to work with a common objective: to make Cuenca and Castilla-La Mancha an increasingly safe, fairer and more prosperous land. I wish you every success in this new phase, which will undoubtedly also be a source of pride for your family, which shares with you the sacrifice and commitment required by the vocation of public service.”
Finally, the Government delegate reiterated “my gratitude and recognition to all the men and women who make up the National Police. Words and gestures of gratitude will never be enough. But today, in this act, I want to express it as clearly as possible: thank you and thank you all for your attention.”
