Toledo.- The delegate of the Government in Castilla-La Mancha, Milagros Tolón, held on Tuesday a meeting with the Regional Platform of Representatives of People with Intellectual Disability or Development, in which she valued this space of participation as "a necessary advance to guarantee the real inclusion and decision-making with a voice of the people with disabilities in our society".
Milagros Tolón recalled that it was precisely in Toledo that the State Platform of Representatives was constituted, “a milestone that today continues to inspire the Spanish associative movement and that makes Castilla-La Mancha a reference for participation and defense of rights.” In this regard, he has congratulated Full Inclusion Castilla-La Mancha for its trajectory and its promotion to this initiative.
Proposals and demands
During the meeting, the members of the Platform have transferred their proposals, demands and concerns to the Government delegate, who has promised to send them to the competent ministries and to keep a constant follow-up of them at an upcoming meeting.
“The direct participation of people with intellectual disabilities is an essential step towards achieving a fairer, more dignified and more egalitarian society. A society without discrimination or guardianship”, stressed the delegate of the Government, who thanked the representatives for their work and claimed their role as active interlocutors.
The delegate also reiterated the firm commitment of the Government of Spain to the rights and freedoms of people with disabilities, “not only with words, but also with deeds”, recalling significant advances in recent years such as the restitution of the right to vote to people with intellectual disabilities, the reform of the Constitution to eliminate the expression “physically, sensory and psychic diminished” or the creation of the figure of the Prosecutor of the Chamber for the Protection of People with Disabilities and Elderly.
“There is still a long way to go, but this Platform is a tool to continue moving steadily towards full inclusion, equal opportunities and the active participation of all people, wherever they live and whatever capacities they have,” he concluded.
The meeting was also attended by Jesús Castellanos, President of the Platform and representative of APANAS (Toledo); María Pérez, Secretary of the Platform and representative of Las Encinas (Guadalajara); Beatriz Prieto, representative of Fundación Madre de la Esperanza (Talavera de la Reina); Santiago Izquierdo, representative of FUTUCAM (Mota del Cuervo, Cuenca); Desiré Castro, representative of ADIN (Villanueva de los Infantes, Ciudad Real) and Novaltana, Head of Inclusion.
