Toledo.- The delegate of the Government of Spain in Castilla-La Mancha, Milagros Tolón, this morning unfurled the banner of 8M in the facade of the Delegation of the Government, in Toledo, accompanied by two agents of the National Police and two other agents of the Civil Guard; in addition to the subdelegate of the Government in the province of Toledo, Carlos Ángel Devia; Eva María García, head of the Unit against Violence against Women in the province of Toledo; and socialist councillors of the City of Toledo.
Milagros Tolón has stressed that today “is a special day, very important. Unfolding this banner is not a process, it means that we continue to fight for equality between men and women. An equality that is included in the Constitution and although little by little we continue to take steps, we still have to move forward. There are many women who still need help and it is very important to make visible that the institutions, in this case the Government of Spain, is working in the fight for that equality.”
Salary gap
The government delegate pointed out that the government of Pedro Sánchez continues to work “so that there is less and less pay gap and that we are like men in all areas of life. We have just approved the Pact against Male Violence in Congress, with the exception of a political group, and I want to remember that the number of women affiliated to Social Security has risen by more than 21% since 2018, knowing that we have to continue working because the salary gap with respect to men in Castilla-La Mancha remains 22%.”
Which means that “if we continued like this, in Castilla-La Mancha we would reach real equality in 2042, so we have to continue doing that work from the administrations so that this does not happen, women have to feel protected and helped. Because we are not safe, there are some far-right political groups that do not believe in equality between men and women and do not believe that there is male violence. But from here we are going to continue working so that no party can whitewash it.”
Milagros Tolón recalled that today began the week of events organized by the Government Delegation on the occasion of 8M, International Women’s Day, “a vindictive week, to make visible what is being done and what remains to be done.”
