Toledo.- The Delegation of the Government of Spain in Castilla-La Mancha has presented today the program of activities organized on the occasion of March 8, International Women's Day, which will take place in Toledo and will have the participation of the former president of the Government, José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero, in the 20th anniversary of the Comprehensive Law against Gender Violence.
The government delegate, Milagros Tolón, stressed that the 8M is “a collective call to reflection, demand and action” and has detailed a program that includes social cinema, commemorative talks and cultural activities in the city’s state museums.
All acts
The program will begin on Monday, March 3, at 10 a.m., with the placement of the 8M commemorative banner on the balcony of the Government Delegation, in St. Vincent Square, accompanied by agents of the National Police and the Civil Guard. In addition, from March 3 to 9, both the current headquarters of the Delegation and the building of Zocodover will be illuminated, under construction.
On the same day, at 7:00 p.m., the documentary “Seeds of Kivu”, winner of the Goya 2025 for Best Documentary Short Film, will be screened in the Delegation’s auditorium, with the presence of the director, Carlos Valle, and the producer, Pepe Castro, to chat with the public. The entrance will be free until the capacity is completed.
On Thursday, March 6, also in the Delegation of the Government, you will be able to see the documentary “Mucha Shit”, about the first strike of actors in 1975, with a subsequent colloquium with producer David Lara and actor Alberto Alonso, in collaboration with the Secretary of State for Democratic Memory. The entrance will be free until the capacity is completed.
On Friday, March 7, the program includes the conference of former President José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero, at 6:00 pm in San Pedro Mártir, in which he will address the 20th anniversary of the Comprehensive Law against Gender Violence, a pioneer in Europe for its comprehensive approach. The entrance will be free until the capacity is completed.
State Museums
On the other hand, “in addition to these initiatives, we add to the activities around 8M organized by the Government Delegation those programmed by the state museums of the Ministry of Culture located in Toledo,” the delegate reported.
In this sense, the Greco Museum will host the micro-exhibition “Austrian Navy. Women and Power in the Golden Age” (from March 7 to June 1); the Archive of the Nobility will present a collection of historical documents of the Junta de Damas, one of the first women’s organizations in Spain; and the Sephardi Museum, among other activities, will offer guided tours “Women between the lines”, to make visible the role of Sephardic women in culture and history. Visits to the Sephardic Museum will be guided: on March 4, 5 and 6 at 12 noon, and on Friday 7 at 5.30 p.m. As the capacity is limited, the requests will be in order of registration, in diffusión.msefardi@cultura.gob.es.
Commitment of the Government of Spain to Equality
Milagros Tolón has stressed that the Government of Pedro Sánchez has demonstrated with facts that gender equality is an absolute priority, promoting pioneering laws such as the Equal Pay Act or the Sexual Freedom Act.
In addition, he highlighted the agreement in Congress for the renewal of the State Pact against Gender Violence, a decisive step to strengthen public protection policies, improve comprehensive care for victims and guarantee stable economic resources in this fight.
The delegate of the Government has warned about the dangerousness of the negationist speeches that seek to trivialize machismo and question equality policies, making it clear that the Executive responds “with facts, laws and resources”, without allowing setbacks in the rights conquered by women.
“Equality is not an option, it is an inalienable right,” said Milagros Tolón, calling for unity and collective commitment in the defense of equality and in the fight against male violence.
Invitation to citizenship
Finally, the Government delegate has encouraged citizens to participate in the scheduled activities and to keep the spirit of 8M alive every day of the year.
