Toledo.- The delegate of the Government of Spain in Castilla-La Mancha, Milagros Tolón, has announced the people and entities that have been distinguished this year with the “Menina 2024 Recognitions” that will be delivered on November 21, at 7.30 pm, at the Sephardi Museum, in Toledo. In addition, he has described the events organized by the Government Delegation through the Coordination Unit against Violence against Women that will be held in the coming weeks on the occasion of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, which is commemorated on 25 November.
“The Menina Awards,” said Milagros Tolón, “aim to highlight the work of individuals, entities and organizations that dedicate their efforts to the fight against male violence and the protection of its victims.”
Those recognized
In this edition, the distinguished persons and entities are as follows:
Mabel Lozano.- Actress, presenter and filmmaker born in Villaluenga de la Sagra (Toledo), for her fight against male violence demonstrated by making documentaries that denounce the reality of women who are victims of sexual slavery networks.
Amparo Molina Alía.- At 92 years old, she is a leader in the world of social action and solidarity. A nurse by profession and founder of Doctors of the World in Castilla-La Mancha, she is an example of commitment in the care of the most vulnerable women.
Las SinSombrero del Juanelo.- Project of the Educational Community of the IES Juanelo Turriano of Toledo to make visible women who have stood out in different disciplines and who have been silenced by history.
Civil Guard and National Police.- The work of their gender violence units (EMUME and UFAM) is recognized as fundamental tools in the care, protection and accompaniment of women victims of male violence.
Antonia Pérez Cabrera.- Sister of the Community of Adoratrices of Ciudad Real, social educator, has worked throughout her life to accompany women with personal, family and social problems and, in recent years, to help young people get out of the world of trafficking and prostitution.
IES “Carmen Burgos de Seguí” de Alovera.- The educational center of this town of Guadalajara has reflected its commitment in the fight against male violence by incorporating the gender perspective into the subjects they teach, and more specifically, with the work that is carried out from the Optional subject of 4th of the ESO “Performing arts, dance and folklore” and his work “Ellas”.
Darita Díaz Monleón.- Teacher in rural school, for bringing the fight against gender violence and education in equality to areas facing the demographic challenge of the Lower Serranía of Cuenca.
And José Javier García Aroca.- Deputy Director of Treatment of the Albacete Penitentiary Center and his work team, for the collaboration and involvement with inmates and inmates in all kinds of activities and, in particular, in activities for equality and against violence against women.
Milagros Tolón has highlighted that “they are examples of Castilla-La Mancha’s commitment to equality and the unity of our society in the fight against male violence and we will recognize this in the act that we will celebrate on the 21st at the Sephardic Museum”.
Training and awareness
With regard to the training, dissemination and awareness-raising activities “that we have organized, I would like to highlight the following”, said the Government delegate:
- On November 20, as usual, we will place the purple ribbon on the facade of the Government Delegation and also on the other provincial subdelegations.
- The façade of Zocodover will be illuminated in purple from November 20 to 27.
- On November 25, we will observe a minute of silence in memory of the women who have been victims of male violence. So far this year in Spain, 39 women have been murdered by their partners or ex-partners, 2 of them in Castilla-La Mancha.
- The conferences “History of women’s sport in Spain”, by the journalist Paloma del Río, on November 14; and “Take off your hat in the face of inconvenient women”, by Elvira Lindo, on the 20th, both at 6:30 in the Regional Library.
- The lecture of professors Ángel Luis López Villaverde and Isabel Jiménez Barroso on “The forms of repression on women during the war and after the Spanish civil war”, on November 14, at 7 in the Public Library of the State of Cuenca.
- Or the guided tour “Looking at Toledo with violet glasses”, from the 20th and 22nd by Professor Felipe Vidales.
- Solidarity with those affected by DANA
“Along with the other activities that have been developing for a few days, some events whose presentation we have had to delay due to the serious floods that have suffered several municipalities in our region and of which two weeks have passed. I take this opportunity to express once again my condolences to the families and friends of the victims and to show my solidarity with the neighbours of all the affected areas both in Castilla-La Mancha and in the Valencian Community and in the other territories that were affected by DANA”, said Milagros Tolón.
“Activities that, as I said, intensify in this month of November, and that are nothing more than the continuation of a dynamic of work maintained by the units against violence against women of the subdelegations of the Government throughout the year and that also includes educational initiatives for schoolchildren of Castilla-La Mancha”.
The delegate of the Government has concluded by pointing out that “the objective of these acts is to make visible all the male violence and all the victims and also that each of us, individually and also from the administrations, assume the obligations that correspond to us to end these violence. With this we advance in one of the commitments of the Government of Spain as is the fight against violence against women, one of the greatest scourges that we suffer in current societies.”
