Toledo.- The Government delegate in Castilla-La Mancha, Milagros Tolón, visited Zocodover Square in Toledo on Thursday, where the solidarity activity “UMEdula” is taking place, an initiative organized by the Military Emergency Unit (UME) with the purpose of raising awareness about bone marrow donation. During his visit he was accompanied by the head of the First Emergency Intervention Battalion of UM, Lieutenant Colonel Alfonso Arribas Lucas.
During the day, the Government delegate highlighted the importance of this type of event, highlighting the commitment of the Government of Spain in supporting solidarity actions that promote donation and help to those most in need. "Institutional support for this type of activity is essential to promote social awareness and remember that a small gesture such as bone marrow donation can save lives," he said.
The event, which is held until 9:00 p.m. in one of the most emblematic points of Toledo, has counted on the active participation of the UME, whose work is key not only in emergency situations, but also in humanitarian and solidarity actions such as today.
In addition, the delegate stressed that Castilla-La Mancha is a region that stands out for its deep sense of solidarity and for the generosity of its citizens, who always respond altruistically to the needs of others. “Our society is an example of humanity and commitment, and it demonstrates this once again by supporting this very important initiative,” he said.
The activity “UMEdula” is part of a national awareness campaign organized in the framework of World Bone Marrow Donor Day, in which citizens are invited to inform themselves and participate as potential donors, contributing to save lives and improve the quality of life of many people who fight serious diseases.
