La Iglesuela (Toledo). The delegate of the Government of Spain in Castilla-La Mancha, Milagros Tolón, has visited the facilities of the Forest Fire Reinforcement Brigade (BRIF) of La Iglesuela (Toledo), where she has been able to see how the works of modernization and expansion of the Base are going, which include the construction of new buildings; and has known and valued the essential work carried out by its professionals, who provide support to the autonomous communities and are always willing to act anywhere in the national or international territory.
The BRIFs are helitransport units of personnel highly specialized in the extinguishment of forest fires placed at the disposal of the autonomous communities by the Ministry for Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenge. Since 1992, they have provided a support service to the autonomous communities that request it.
Expansion works for 4.5 million euros
The expansion works of the BRIF Base in La Iglesuela have a budget of almost 4.5 million euros and are expected to be inaugurated in April 2025. The actions include the construction of a main building and two auxiliary buildings, as well as the closing of the plots where the new infrastructures are located, and accesses with parking area. Auxiliary constructions that are an auxiliary building with warehouses for pilots, EPI, machinery and a small maintenance workshop, in addition to an outdoor dining room covered with barbecue.
The BRIF of La Iglesuela provides coverage in all those actions that request them. In addition to covering the forest fire campaigns, the rest of the year they carry out prevention work, as important as fundamental to avoid fire in the hottest months.
Each BRIF is composed of about 60 people who are divided into three shifts. And each shift is made up of 14 forest firefighters, 2 forest firefighter foremen and a forest firefighter technician. In addition, at each base there are non-operational personnel such as a physical trainer, an emissary and base technicians; two helicopters and their corresponding crew (pilot, co-pilot and mechanic); and a chief coordinator.
