Toledo. Within the framework of the crash plan established by the General Directorate of Traffic (DGT) in the face of the increase in accidents on the roads, an information and prevention campaign of traffic accidents has been launched in the group of motorcyclists.
To this end, brochures and leaflets have been designed and printed on equipment and safety features for motorcyclists, advice on motorcycle riding and the consequences of road accidents for motorcyclists. This material will be distributed by the subsectors of Traffic of the Civil Guard in Castilla-La Mancha in concentrations, events with influx of motorcyclists and in the control and surveillance campaigns of this type of vehicles.
This information action is carried out after an increase in the accident rate of users of motorcycles or mopeds, which account for 20% of deaths in traffic accidents. At the same time, there has been an increase in the motorcycle park in Castilla-La Mancha, from 129,931 in 2022 to 138,894 in 2024. So far this year, a total of 8 people have died on motorcycles and mopeds in Castilla-La Mancha, of which 7 on interurban roads. Only 1 of them did not use the helmet.
The DGT reports that it is a vehicle that is used both during the week for work and for leisure on weekends and that it is increasingly present in the urban environment. Being a vulnerable group on the roads, passive safety elements that minimize damage caused in the event of an accident (helmet, clothing, gloves), among other aspects that are included in the dissemination material that has been edited, are of the utmost importance.
