Toledo.- The delegate of the Government of Spain in Castilla-La Mancha, Milagros Tolón, and the mayor of Oropesa (Toledo), Rubén Zapardiel, have chaired on Monday the Local Security Board convened on the occasion of the XXIII Medieval Days, which are held in the municipality of Toledo from April 12 to 14 and which are declared of Regional Tourist Interest.
Milagros Tolón has stated that the Medieval Days of Oropesa “are a consolidated reference in the cultural calendar of Toledo and Castilla-La Mancha” that fulfill a double objective; on the one hand, to recover the tradition and history of Oropesa, and, on the other, to form a tourist attraction that generates wealth and employment throughout the region.
The large number of attendees (around 40,000 people anticipate the organization) “requires a coordination effort on the part of the administrations and this is the objective of this Local Security Board: to ensure that everyone can enjoy the activities normally and calmly”, said the delegate of the Government, who has been accompanied by the subdelegate in Toledo, Carlos Ángel Devia.
Milagros Tolón has highlighted the importance of institutional coordination and cooperation so that visitors and neighbors can enjoy these Medieval Days, which will be embodied in a security and emergency device that includes surveillance, controls, evacuation routes, points of attention and information etc.
“The Government of Spain is committed to this objective and actively participates with the troops of the Civil Guard,” said the delegate of the Central Executive in Castilla-La Mancha, who congratulated the City Council and the mayor for the work they have been doing in recent years to place these Medieval Days as an event of national projection.
For his part, the mayor of Oropesa has pointed out that this festival is the most important cultural event in the municipality. “More than 40,000 people come together in a conference that is a cultural reference. A weekend in which the streets are filled with joy, in which all the neighbors and neighbors participate” with more than 150 scheduled activities and 500 actors in the shows.
The Local Security Board has been attended by representatives of the Civil Guard, Local Police, Civil Protection, Firefighters, JCCM Citizen Protection Service and Municipal Services; in addition to the provincial coordinator of the Board of Communities, Javier Úbeda.
