Talavera, October 12, 2023.- The Command of the Civil Guard of Talavera de la Reina, headquarters of the third company of the Armando Institute in Toledo, has hosted this morning the official commemoration of its patron saint, the Virgen del Pilar.
The events were presided over by the Government’s deputy delegate in Toledo, Carlos Ángel Devia, who was accompanied by the captain of the Command, Juan José Lorite, as well as the mayor of the town, José Julián Gregorio, regional, civil, judicial, ecclesiastical and military authorities.
On this 179 anniversary of the Civil Guard, the Government’s deputy delegate publicly congratulated the more than 1,500 men and women of the Benemérita who serve in Toledo, and in a special way, the 181 who do so in the Third Company of Talavera, as well as the 42 civil guards in practice arrived last July at the Toledo Command.
Carlos Ángel Devia recalled that this year, in addition to celebrating the 179 anniversary of the foundation of the Corps, the Armando Institute celebrates other significant ephemeris such as the 50th anniversary of the creation of the specialties of the Air Service and Deactivation of Explosives, and a decade of the entry into operation of the Roca teams, whose work - he said - is essential in Toledo, due to the social and economic importance of the rural environment in the province.
In particular, he also referred to the creation last year of the VioGén team in Talavera de la Reina, a specialized unit against Gender Violence against Women, a male violence that so far this year has left 50 victims in Spain.
On the other hand, he has also praised the professionalism, selflessness and vocation of public service of the men and women of the Civil Guard, assisting the citizens who were affected by the DANA that occurred in the first days of September, with special incidence in the province of Toledo when three fatalities were recorded.
“They were hard and dangerous days and yet the Civil Guard gave, as always, the best of itself, which is a reason for pride and admiration, feelings to which I join, and for which I congratulate them for their vocation, for their courage and for their high sense of duty.”
The deputy delegate of the Government stressed that “Spain is one of the safest countries in the world, a value, which would not be possible without the contribution of our Civil Guard, in which we trust as guarantor of our rights and freedoms, with loyalty to our institutions, impartiality and neutrality.”
Carlos Ángel Devia has thanked the County Council of Toledo for its commitment to the Civil Guard in the maintenance of the facilities in the province, and good proof of this, he added, are the works and reforms carried out in the Talavera Command and has expressed his desire that the new provincial corporation continue to collaborate within that framework of institutional cooperation.
Finally, the Government ' s deputy delegate has expressed his support for the families of the civil guards, who are the ones who suffer their risks and absences and has had a solemn memory for all those who have fallen in the line of duty.
After the speaking shifts of the captain of the Command, Juan José Lorite, who opened the act and the mayor of Talavera, José Julián Gregorio, the posthumous tribute to fallen in act of service has taken place, depositing a laurel crown next to the image of the patron saint in the courtyard of the Command.
