Toledo, October 3, 2023.- The subdelegate of the Government in Toledo, Carlos Ángel Devia, inaugurated this morning on the Campus of the Arms Factory a Conference on Equality with the theme: ‘Children facing different forms of violence against women: victims, aggressors and spectators’, organized by the Unit against violence against women of the Subdelegation of the Government of Toledo and the Faculty of Education of the University of Castilla-La Mancha.
The conference was also attended by the delegate of the rector for Equality Policies, Carmen Díaz Mora, and the co-director of the conference and secretary of the Equality and Diversity Commission of the Faculty of Education of Toledo, Zaida Vila Carneiro.
Carlos Ángel Devia thanked the almost 300 attendees of these days for their participation and highlighted “the concern within the educational community about the different forms of violence against women”, since the day is aimed especially at teachers of Early Childhood, Primary and Secondary Education, in which half a hundred agents of the National Police have also been present.
The subdelegate of the Government has affirmed that “teachers and the State Security Forces and Corps are the first line of defense for minors against the scourge that for our society implies the existence of gender violence.”
In this way he explained that the days address the role of the child in a triple aspect: as a victim, as a spectator and as an aggressor, which unfortunately in recent times is having greater relevance through the use of the Internet and new technologies.
In relation to the incidence of this issue in Toledo, he has reported that at present in the province there are 218 cases of assets of minors in a situation of vulnerability, 113 active cases in a situation of irrigation and 4 cases as aggressors.
Ángel Devia has pointed out that the main objective of this day is to provide teachers with tools for their prevention, detection and treatment in the educational field, as well as sexual abuse in this environment.
In this regard, he mentioned that an immense majority of teachers believe that in order to generalize the prevention of gender violence and make it more effective, teachers’ training programs and well-prepared materials must be available, which allow this issue to be incorporated into comprehensive plans of center, oriented to the prevention of all types of violence and specifically including gender violence, "an opinion - he stressed - with which the measures proposed in the State Pact against Gender Violence coincide."
The subdelegate of the government explained that these conferences pursue this objective and thanked the University of Castilla-La Mancha for its collaboration in this type of conference, which was officially established within a General Protocol of Action, signed between the Government Delegation and the regional University last June.
Finally, he also thanked the participation of the four speakers who attended the day and wished the attendees that the contents and reflections are of interest and usefulness “so that among all of us we can successfully deal with violence against women and their involvement in minors, because the value of a developed society is measured in how it treats and protects its most vulnerable members”.
