Cuenca.- The delegate of the Government of Spain in Castilla-La Mancha, Francisco Tierraseca, has highlighted "the good rhythm" of the works for the new Provincial Police Station in Cuenca, which are already "practically half of their state of execution".
This Friday, Tierraseca took advantage of his stay in Cuenca, where he went to co-chair the Local Security Board preparatory to the Holy Week, to move to the future new police units, which is being undertaken by the state public society SIEPSE, dependent on the Ministry of Finance.
Accompanied by the mayor of the city, Darío Dolz, by the subdelegate of the Government in Cuenca, María Luz Fernández, and by the Chief Commissioner in Cuenca, José Luis Serrano, they have verified the fulfillment of the deadlines of a work, which is expected to be completed by the last quarter of this 2023 and which will have had a budget of 8.5 million euros.
On this visit, the government delegate and the mayor of Cuenca have been informed of the work that has been carried out inside the building, both in the partition and in the toilets, the construction of the shooting gallery, the installation of the air conditioning and the electrical wiring system, and they have also been transferred that they have started with the scaffolding for the placement of the façade.
The construction project, the new Cuenca National Police Station, which rehabilitates two existing buildings to turn them into a single energy efficient and resilient infrastructure, has obtained the ‘Green 4 sheets’ rating from the Green Building Council Spain (GBCe), which certifies that it is a sustainable design from the economic, social and environmental points of view. This is why both the Minister of the Interior, Fernando Grande-Marlaska – on his visit last November – and now the government delegate in Castilla-La Mancha have stressed that it will be a “model” building because it will have a very low energy consumption. Tierraseca also pointed out that it will be an example of “sustainable property from the economic, social and environmental points of view”.
The building will consist of two almost identical volumes of three heights. The public service area will be located on the ground floor to facilitate access for citizens and will have waiting rooms and offices. The upper floors are intended for the various operational brigades and police working groups, and will have offices and training rooms.
In the basement will be installed the detention area, changing rooms, gym and other general use units, as well as the parking, which can house vans, cars and motorcycles and will be equipped with charging areas for electric and hybrid cars.
The future building will have a total built area of 7,739.12 square meters, will be equipped with systems for reducing water consumption, adequate protection and acoustic conditioning and the construction materials have been chosen based on their carbon footprint and their possibilities of recycling and reuse with circular economy criteria.
Currently, the staff of the National Police in Cuenca has 146 personnel, almost 33% more than in 2018, and in 2022 it closed with one of the “lowest crime rates in the country”, with 36.1 criminal offenses per 1,000 inhabitants, which is 13 points below the national crime rate, which is 49 criminal offenses per 1,000 inhabitants.
