Guadalajara.- The subdelegate of the Government in the province of Guadalajara presided this morning the commemorative act of the 199 years of the creation of the General Police of the Kingdom, the first precedent of the National Police for its national implementation and urban character. In her speech, the subdelegate highlighted “the daily effort and sacrifice in the work” of the members of the Corps, which has made them an institution “loved and respected by the citizens, who have all their trust.”
In the prelude to the bicentenary that will be held next year, Gómez wanted to convey to the National Police “the congratulations and gratitude of the citizens of Guadalajara, who are proud of you”. This morning’s event, he added, is “a tribute to those who have been part of this body throughout its history, because it is the trajectory of all these years that has brought us here, and has made our country one of the safest in the world and our city one of the safest in Spain.”
The deputy delegate recalled that the 1978 Constitution establishes in its article 194 the two basic missions of the National Police Force: “protect the free exercise of rights and freedoms and guarantee citizen security”, and highlighted “the full integration of the Police in society, achieved from closeness and professionalism”.
“Today, the Police belongs to everyone and that is how it is perceived by the citizens. Hence also the rejection caused by attempts to appropriate or use in a partisan way what is a common good, a public service of which we are all proud,” he said.
Finally, he pointed out the new challenges facing the National Police today, “so different from those it faced at the beginning of the 19th century”, although he stressed that “the professionalism and ability to overcome demonstrated during these almost 200 years are the values that allow us to have the guarantee that in the future we will continue to be as well protected as we have been until now”.
Public service
In his previous speech, the provincial chief commissioner of the National Police, Ángel Alcázar, has reviewed the evolution of the Corps since its creation, always in the spirit of public service” as a common denominator, and has also influenced the ability to adapt to the challenges of each era.
The event, attended by the mayor of Guadalajara, Alberto Rojo; the delegate of the Board of Communities of Castilla-La Mancha in Guadalajara, Eusebio Robles, and the deputy delegate of Works and service of the Deputation, Ramiro Magro, has also served to deliver distinctions to police officers who have stood out in the exercise of their functions and to people and companies who have collaborated to facilitate the work of the Police.
