Toledo.- The deputy delegate of the Government, Carlos Ángel Devia, presided this Thursday in Toledo the act of celebration for the 199 anniversary of the National Police, highlighting the great work of the police force with citizens.
The deputy delegate has expressed his full support for the work of all the men and women who make up the National Police Force and has encouraged them to persevere in the effort demanded by society in the face of the inaudible number of victims of gender violence.
“This effort, in addition to the tasks of official assistance and protection, demands if we want to win this battle, a true pedagogy of values, especially among the youngest, where the normal thing is denunciation and not silence,” added the deputy delegate of the Government.
In this regard, he explained that with the collaboration of the National Police we have an excellent working tool such as the Master Plan for Coexistence and Improvement of Security in Educational Centers and their Environments, through which we can inculcate from the earliest ages a zero tolerance for any type of aggression.
During the celebration of the event, members of the National Police have been granted entry into the Order of Police Merit and three Police Merit Medals with a white badge have been imposed on Officer Raúl Fernández Durán and police officers Juan José Ortega Castro and María Carmen Álvarez Fuente, for their outstanding participation in humanitarian services.
The awards for the dedication to the police service in its medal and cross modality have been given to the national police who have carried out their work for 20 and 25 years respectively, in addition to diplomas to retired agents.
Creation of the National Police
The National Police emerged in 1824 with the creation, under the reign of Fernando VII, of the General Police of the Kingdom, through the Royal Decree of January 13. Previously, during the so-called Constitutional Triennium (1820-1823), a police force project “aimed at the security of people and property and the preservation of public order” had also been developed, but it was frustrated due to the French military intervention of the “Hundred Thousand Sons of St. Louis” and the restoration of the absolutist monarchy.
January 13, 1824 is considered the founding date of the Spanish Police, in terms of modernity. The Real Cédula makes a double classification of police personnel. On the one hand, there were the professionals, composed of the same general superintendent, the secretary, the treasurer, the headquarters commissioners and the ward and gate guards. And on the other, the semi-professionals formed by the so-called neighborhood mayors.
