Cuenca.- The subdelegate of the Government of Spain in Cuenca, Mª Luz Fernández, visited today the International Tourism Fair (FITUR), which is held in Madrid, on the occasion of the day dedicated to the province of Cuenca at the stand of Castilla-La Mancha.
M.ª Luz Fernández highlighted “the firm commitment of the Government of Spain to this sector” and stressed that “investment in tourism is a commitment to territorial and environmental sustainability and to the future of our province, since it promotes economic development in the area and allows to fix the inhabitants in the territory, in addition to attracting new population”.
During his visit, Fernández highlighted the impetus that the Executive is providing to the province, through the Sustainable Tourism Plans of Cuenca, and the recently approved Biosphere Reserve of the Cabriel Valley.
This Plan was presented by the Provincial Council of Cuenca, in which the Government of Spain participates in its financing.
In total, more than 5.5 million euros arrive in the province for tourism development with the collaboration between the different administrations, of which the state contribution amounts to almost 2 million euros.
The subdelegate also referred to the investment intended for the improvement of the heritage of the World Heritage Cities and that, in the case of Cuenca, the Government of Spain allocates 3 million euros for the integral restoration and valorisation of the wall and the Bezudo Arch, thus reinforcing this heritage resource and the tourist offer of the city.
"Likewise, Fernández referred to the investments included in the PGE 2023 for Cuenca, which include the improvements destined for the Paradores de Cuenca and Alarcón, with a budget of close to € 400,000, in addition to the investment of € 350,000 to undertake improvements in the Cathedral of Cuenca.
The Government of Spain is allocating almost 6 million euros to the province of Cuenca in terms of tourism to strengthen the management structure of the destination in Cuenca, implement mechanisms of tourist intelligence and improve tourist accessibility, in addition to the development of tourist products related to ecotourism or active tourism “and also destined for heritage conservation”, stressed the Government’s deputy delegate.
Finally, Fernández recalled that, in addition, this is a key year for the gastronomic and hospitality positioning of Cuenca as the city has collected the witness of Spanish Capital of Gastronomy 2023, an event that will help promote Cuenca as a tourist and gastronomic destination of quality, with an ambitious program of activities, in which the Government of Spain also participates economically through the Tourism Sustainability Plan of Cuenca.
