- The planned works will relieve the acoustic levels supported in more than 10 kilometers of track distributed between both motorways
The Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility has approved the Action Plan against Noise (PAR) of the major roads of the State Road Network for the period 2025-2029, which includes an investment of more than 12.6 million euros in eight actions in Cantabria.
Among the planned performances are two in the A-8, in Plots and Torrelavega; and six in the S-10, at the height of Maliaño, Astillero and Heras. As a whole, the works will affect a total of 10 kilometers of road.
The government delegate in Cantabria, Pedro Casares, has valued this new investment of the Ministry of Transport in Cantabria to install acoustic screens and thus improve the quality of life of the neighbors who reside near these high-capacity roads.
After completing its public consultation phase, the approved Plan prioritizes the development of corrective measures in 95 areas of action of 11 autonomous communities, adding a total of 107 kilometers of roads that currently exceed the noise quality objectives established by regulations.
The total investment foreseen in this plan is 233 million euros and the works should be executed before 2029. With them, it is estimated that more than 37,800 people, 13 health centers and 33 educational and cultural centers will directly benefit
According to data from the Ministry, 93% of the prioritized actions already have approved construction projects or are in an advanced stage of drafting, which will allow an agile deployment of the works. Among the measures contemplated are the installation of acoustic screens, the renovation of pavements by others of sound-absorbing characteristics and other technical solutions.
These actions have been defined after the strategic mapping of the noise of the major roads of the State Road Network with traffic of more than 3 million vehicles per year. In the case of Cantabria, a total of 327 kilometers has been analyzed.
The planned investment in this Plan represents the continuation of the more than 132 million euros tendered in 23 specific works between 2021 and 2024, financed with funds from the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan (PRTR)–NextGenerationEU, whose works are expected to be completed during 2026.
