- The government delegate in Cantabria has participated in the event for the patron saint of pharmacists
The government delegate in Cantabria, Pedro Casares, has claimed pharmacists as a “key and essential piece” in the health system of Spain and Cantabria and their contribution to guarantee the health of citizens.
“Saying pharmacy is synonymous with health, care and protection”, Casares praised this Saturday in the event for the patron saint of pharmaceutical professionals, organized by the Official College of Pharmacists of Cantabria at the Hotel Real.
The representative of the State in the autonomous community has valued the work “often silent or silenced” that these professionals carry out in the health system as a whole and “without whose work, which often goes unnoticed, our health system simply could not be sustained”.
He has recognized the importance of the College of Pharmacists of Cantabria, with more than 900 members, and has claimed for them “dignified conditions, stability and social recognition”.
“These professionals cannot be held responsible for maintaining access to health without society providing them with the tools and protection they need,” he said.
The government delegate has considered that pharmacists are a “fundamental part” of the “social conquest” that implies that health is a right in our country.
And he has also highlighted his social work, especially in towns and rural areas, where “pharmacies are much more than a point of dispensing medicines: they are spaces of care, orientation and humanity”.
“During the recent health crises, we saw pharmacists open their doors when many other services were closed, providing truthful information, calming fears, accompanying older people and ensuring that treatments reached those who needed them most,” he said.
To conclude, Casares has praised the appointment of Rita de la Plaza as honorary president of the collegiate entity, “one of those people who has made the College of Pharmacists of Cantabria today a reference not only in our land but throughout the country”.
“Not only do you recognize someone who has given much of his life to this institution, to this school, but you make it possible for us to count on his talent, his ideas, his work to improve the health system and the involvement of the pharmacy in Cantabria,” he added.
