The month of August is about to end and with it comes for many the end of the summer holidays and the consequent return home to return to the daily routine. For this reason, with the aim of ensuring that these millions of journeys take place in maximum safety conditions, the Directorate-General for Traffic will launch tomorrow the last of the special devices prepared for this summer.
For him, the Agency expects that, from 15:00 a.m. tomorrow, Friday 29 and until midnight on Sunday 31 August, there will be 127,000 long-distance movements in Cantabria due to the generalized return that will take place in the coming days.
Traffic has established a series of traffic regulation, management and surveillance measures with 180 agents of the Civil Guard Traffic Group, especially to control traffic on the A-67 and A-8.
In this operation, the aforementioned return movements will coincide, which will be staggered between the days preceding this weekend and the weekend itself, mainly on Sunday, August 31, from the coastal and rest tourist areas to the large urban centers, with exit movements that also occur during the weekend, mainly to coastal tourist areas and the usual ones of a summer weekend.
In addition, during these days it is also planned that there will continue to be a significant influx of vehicles on the main axes and border crossings due to the return to European countries of habitual residence.
TRAFFIC FORECASTS
From the first hours of the afternoon of Friday 29 (especially between 16 and 22 hours), there will be important movements that will cause high intensities and circulation problems, both in the direction of departure from the large urban centers, as well as in the main communication channels of access to the coastal tourist areas and rest by the beginning of the summer weekend.
On Saturday the 30th, intense traffic will continue in the direction of departure from the large urban centers from the first hours of the morning, especially between 9 and 13 hours, motivated by the imminent beginning of the holiday month of September and by the usual short weekend trips to areas of second residence and beaches. In the afternoon, you will be able to observe return movements to the large urban centers of those who have finished their holidays and make the return “staggered”, the intensity being high in some road axes.
On Sunday 31 in the morning, the access to beaches and coast with circulation problems will be conflictive in itineraries that link populations of the coast to, already in the early hours of the afternoon, between 16 and 23 hours, begin to present high intensities of traffic and circulation problems in the main roads of communication that channel all the return movement from the coastal areas and rest to the large urban centers by the return of both those who have finished their holidays in August and those who have enjoyed the weekend.
In addition, there will also be high traffic intensities on the axes of communication with border crossings due to the return movements of vehicles of foreign registration to their European countries of origin.

THE ONLY IMPORTANT THING IS ALWAYS TO ARRIVE
It is possible that, in these days when millions of people return to their habitual residences to return to the routine, we will find ourselves with roadside detentions. Retentions that produce stress, aggressiveness, fatigue, tiredness and even a feeling of being “wasting time” that, once the retention is over, causes many drivers to try to recover that lost time by accelerating more of the account or advancing unwisely.
But it is essential to be aware that this lost time is not recovered, that excessive speed and anti-regulatory manoeuvres only increase the risk of suffering a traffic accident and that the really important thing is always to get home.
Of course, it is necessary to start the trip as rested as possible, never drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs, respect traffic rules at all times and avoid distractions at the wheel.
In addition, Traffic always recommends, before and during the trip, to be informed of the state of the roads through all the communication channels available to it, either through the accounts of X, @informacionDGT and @DGTes, radio and television news bulletins, such as on the phone 011 or on the website of the Agency (www.dgt.es or https://infocar.dgt.es/etraffic/) in order to be able to avoid unforeseen events and use the alternative itineraries proposed if necessary.
