The government delegate in Cantabria, Pedro Casares, made the first visit to the Civil Guard Command in Cantabria, at the Campogiro quartering in Santander.
Casares said that “he has had the opportunity to come to this Command many times in my years as a public servant, but he is my first visit as a government delegate in Cantabria”.
“For many reasons, the Civil Guard is an example of a vocation for public service and today I have the opportunity to voice the tireless work they do in the autonomous community,” said the government delegate accompanied by the colonel, Antonio Orantos, and the official and non-commissioned officers.
For Casares, “the Civil Guard has 181 years of history of commitment to citizen security and coexistence.” “They have demonstrated a tireless work and permanent vocation of public service so that all men and women of Cantabria can live in peace and freedom,” he emphasized.
In this regard, the government delegate has affirmed that the Civil Guard “does its work today in Cantabria in one of the best moments in its history”, highlighting the number of agents and the technical and material means and the investment plan in infrastructures that is being made by the Government of Spain and the general direction of the Civil Guard.
“As you know, today in Cantabria the Civil Guard has the largest number of agents in its history”, he said, highlighting that in the catalog there are 1,380 agents who serve in the autonomous community.
Thus, the government delegate stressed that “2025 has been the year to reach that figure by incorporating 79 more agents and we have 55 agents in practice”.
“An extraordinary reinforcement of the personnel that has also been linked with that commitment of the Government of Spain, of President Pedro Sánchez and of Minister Fernando Grande Marlaska to improve the working conditions of the agents,” he explained, highlighting that, for seven years, “the average remuneration has risen by 38%.”
In addition, Casares has pointed out “the extraordinary work to reinforce also the means available to the Civil Guard”, highlighting the reform of the Potes barracks and the current renovation works in the barracks of Cabezón de la Sal and Reinosa.
Commitment to equality and innovation
On the other hand, the government delegate highlighted the Civil Guard’s commitment to equality, noting that, of the 37 command posts in the territory of Cantabria, “we advance in that equality with four female commanders serving in Cantabria,” specifically in Ampuero, Cabuérniga, Pesúes and Polientes.
Likewise, Casares stressed that the Civil Guard “is synonymous with innovation and adapting to the times”, highlighting the initiative launched by electronic reporting. “Since July 4, the electronic complaint is operational so that any citizen of Cantabria can put complaints through the electronic headquarters as theft, loss of documentation.”
“It is the first security force to implement electronic reporting in our country,” he said.
Commitment to the region and economic security
In addition, Casares pointed out that the Civil Guard “also allows us to develop our project of region, autonomous community and economic activity”.
“A very clear fact in this is the activity in the Port of Santander. We used to be in the news because of the intrusions in the activity of the ships of the Port and today they are practically an anecdote with five intrusions in 2025”, he said. That figure of five intrusions in 2025 in the Port of Santander contrasts with the 752 intrusions that took place in 2021.
Finally, the government delegate in Cantabria, Pedro Casares, has concluded that Spain is one of the safest regions in the world, and within the country, Cantabria is one of the safest communities.”
“This is thanks to the work of the State Security Forces and Bodies, with which we will work to continue guaranteeing the progress of this land,” he said.
