The Minister of Industry and Tourism, Jordi Hereu, visited today, accompanied by the delegate of the Government, Eugenia Gómez de Diego, the new electrification project of the company Teknia, in its production facilities in Ampuero (Cantabria). The project received institutional support from the Ministry with an allocation in PERTE VEC III of 1.6 million euros, between loan and grant.
For Jordi Hereu, this project is a clear example of how a company is firmly committed to innovation and leadership in the transition to more sustainable, connected and efficient mobility. In the opinion of the minister, we are living a crucial moment in which electrification has become the central axis of this transformation, and Spain is called to be a reference in this field by companies such as Teknia.
For his part, Javier Quesada de Luis, CEO of Teknia, stressed that public-private collaboration is key to continue betting on industrial innovation in Spain, even more so in the automotive industry, which is undergoing a very accelerated transformation in recent years. Projects like this allow us to generate opportunities that have a direct impact on the territory. This is the case of this important investment in Ampuero that places the Cantabrian town as a reference in the manufacture of components for new mobility in Spain and Europe.
Key component of electric vehicle
During his visit, the minister was able to get to know first-hand the new production facilities where the Spanish multinational specialized in the manufacture of metal and plastic components for mobility manufactures a housing for a power inverter, a key piece in the electrification of vehicles.
The component is made of high-pressure aluminum injection (HPDC) technology, which in the electric vehicle takes on great importance in the face of the need to lighten its weight. This new project places the Cantabrian plant of the Spanish multinational as a reference in the manufacture of electric vehicle components.
This project also represents the largest business acquisition in the history of Teknia, with a total investment of more than 6 million euros, the largest carried out to date by the company for the same project. Aimed at expanding the industrial capacities of the plant, it will represent a 30% increase in the turnover of the plant.
Teknia has two production plants in Cantabria, one specialized in aluminum injection technology and another specialized in bar machining. These two industrial plants employ 300 people at present and invoiced 41 million euros in 2024, which places them as references in the generation of local employment and economic dynamization of the environment. Teknia has 23 plants in 13 countries around the world, employing more than 3,500 people. 9 of these plants are located in Spain.
