The Cantabrian Hydrographic Confederation has begun maintenance, conservation and improvement work on the River Clarín, in the vicinity of the town of Matienzo in the municipality of Ruesga. These works are carried out with the aim of improving the composition and structure of the vegetation of the river, as well as removing obstructive elements from the riverbed.
In the vicinity of the town of Matienzo, on the riverbed of the River Clarín, accumulations of plant remains, fallen trees of large dimensions and some specimens with risk of falling, as well as anthropogenic waste have been observed. This situation could lead to blockages at certain points in the Carcavuezo Cauce and Sumidero, where the Clarín River is submerged to reappear in the municipality of Voto.
The performances are executed over a stretch of 3.9 km and have an initial budget of 95 100 €. The main tasks consist of the removal of plant remains, the attachment of trees with risk of falling, as well as the removal of waste of anthropogenic origin present along the riverbed.
This work is carried out through the public company Tragsa within the Maintenance and Conservation of Waterways Program developed by the Cantabrian Hydrographic Confederation outside urban areas, since in urban areas the conservation and maintenance of waterways are the responsibility of the municipalities.
In the year 2024, the investment made in conservation and maintenance works of waterways in Cantabria was 1.46 million euros, distributed in 68 actions in 41 municipalities.
