The delegate of the Government in Cantabria, Eugenia Gómez de Diego, held an institutional meeting with the mayor of Cabezón de la Sal, Víctor Reinoso; the first deputy mayor and councilor of Culture, Sports and Tourism, María Jesús García Hoyo; and the head of Industry, José Manuel Seco, to review the projects of the Government of Spain in the municipality and address new demands in terms of infrastructure, mobility, security and environment.
The meeting, which took place at the headquarters of the City Council at the request of the local government team, has served to transfer to the delegate the request to adapt a land next to the exit of the A-8, at the entrance to the municipality, which is currently used as parking and meeting point to share a car. The City Council requests the Road Demarcation to asphalt and condition this space, with the aim of improving its functionality and safety.
In addition, a review has been made of the main projects of the Government of Spain in the municipality, such as the suppression of the passage at the level of Ontoria. This action, which has a joint investment of 3.4 million euros by the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility and the Government of Cantabria, also includes the execution of a variant of the CA-813 road that will link to the N-634. The agreement was approved last March and ADIF is already working on the drafting of the project - a step prior to the tender of the works - according to the delegate.
In the railway field, the municipal representatives have also transferred their interest for ADIF to enable a deterrent parking in a land adjacent to the train station of Cabezón de la Sal. The delegate has undertaken to transfer this proposal to the public company to study its feasibility.
In the light of this, the delegate has reported that ADIF is managing the demolition of an old quarter of agents, currently in a state of ruin, as part of the improvement actions in the environment.
Restoration of the Saja River
The meeting also addressed the work being carried out by the Cantabrian Hydrographic Confederation in the municipality. Among them stands the project of hydrogeomorphological restoration and improvement of the river habitats associated to the Saja River, with an investment of more than 5 million euros. The actions include the elimination of barriers and obstacles, the recovery of historical arms of the river, the management of vegetation with eradication of invasive species and planting of native flora, as well as works of defense against floods and improvement of the water quality through green filters and residue control. The parties have agreed to make a joint visit to learn about the development of these works on the ground.
In addition, the Confederation is implementing another environmental recovery project for the Saja River between Caranceja and Casar, in the municipalities of Reocín and Cabezón de la Sal. This work, awarded for an amount of almost 3.5 million, has as its main objective the ecological restoration of the environment and the reduction of the risk of floods.
Finally, the mayor and the deputy mayor have agreed with the delegate to convene a Local Security Board in order to analyze the crime balance in the municipality.
