The delegate of the Government in Cantabria, Eugenia Gómez de Diego, and the rector of the University of Cantabria (UC), Conchi López, held this morning their first institutional meeting as a first contact to review all the issues in which both institutions collaborate.
During this meeting they reviewed, in particular, the projects in which the UC participates funded by the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan (PRTR) that represent funding of more than eight million euros for issues such as new 6G technologies, supercomputing, the Chip Cantabria Chair, ecological transition, the improvement of computer facilities and data storage systems, modernization, digitalization and requalification aids.
Another of the topics addressed has been the state of execution of the works to improve the sustainability and energy efficiency of the Faculty of Sciences, works that have an investment of more than three million from the NEXTGENERATIONEU funds to which is added another almost two and a half million contributed by the UC.
In addition, new ways of collaborating have been evaluated to bring e-government closer to students, something that the UC rector considers “very useful” to “advance in the digital transformation of the university and society”.
For her part, the Government delegate stressed that "the Spanish Government's commitment to research and innovation is firm, and the University of Cantabria is a strategic ally in this path". "We are pleased to see how European funds are helping to generate opportunities, advance research and promote knowledge in our community," said Gómez de Diego, who has made himself available to the rector to "continue moving forward together."

The Recovery Plan
The objective of Spain’s Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan is to accelerate economic and social recovery following the COVID-19 crisis and to increase growth capacity in the medium and long term. It is about creating the right conditions, with reforms and investments, for European funds to be used in the most efficient way and to have the greatest possible impact.
The Plan has been elaborated on four transversal axes: ecological transition, digital transformation, territorial and social cohesion, and gender equality.
