The Parador de Turismo de Limpias will resume its activity on April 1 after undertaking a reform with a total investment of 2 million euros. The works, which have lasted six months, have focused on improving the infrastructure of the establishment, adapting it to the needs of the future without losing respect for its historical and monumental value.
The reopening date was announced today by the president of Paradores, Raquel Sánchez, on the occasion of a visit made with the delegate of the Government in Cantabria, Eugenia Gómez de Diego, and the mayor of the town, Ignacio Sáinz, to supervise the current state of the final phase of the remodeling works that are being executed in the Parador.
“I am convinced that, with these reforms, the Parador de Limpias will not only continue to be a benchmark of tradition, but will, from now on, be an example of modernity and sustainability,” said the president, who has also highlighted its role as “a key driver for the revitalization of the area, offering a unique, responsible and renewed experience, which will attract more visitors and contribute to the strengthening of the local economy. Without a doubt, the future is promising.”
The action has focused on two key areas: sustainability and improving the customer experience. In the first section, in line with the company’s commitment to move towards a more responsible and sustainable tourism model, much of the reforms have focused on improving the building’s energy efficiency. Thus, the pipes of the building have been completely renovated and an aerothermal system has been installed, which improves air conditioning and will save around 25% on the bill. New fancoils and a BMS control system have also been installed. In addition, work is under way on renovating the exterior carpentry of the Palace building to improve thermal and acoustic insulation, which will reduce energy consumption and increase guest comfort.
In terms of improving the customer experience, being excellence one of the main attributes of the company, a significant investment in decoration is being made in the Palace building that focuses on the improvement of common areas such as the reception, the cafeteria, the restaurant and the passage areas and that will be carried out once the replacement of the exterior carpentry is completed.
Important changes have also been made that modernize the facilities and improve the accessibility and comfort of customers: replacement of two elevators, conversion of the tennis and paddle court into a multisport court to expand the offer of activities and the installation of a new fire group, ensuring the safety of guests.
A total of 14 million investment in Cantabria
The reforms of the Parador de Limpias are part of the modernization project in which Paradores is immersed and which will rehabilitate more than 50% of the establishments of the network in the next five years with an investment of 250 million euros in conjunction with Turespaña and with European funds (PRTR). An action that also affects the rest of the Cantabrian Paradores, allocating around 14 million euros in total in the community. “This effort will have a strong impact on the entire community and the area, since Paradores acts as a key agent and engine to contribute to the economy of Cantabria as a whole,” said Sánchez.
For her part, the delegate of the Government, Eugenia Gómez de Diego, after thanking Raquel Sánchez for the commitment of Paradores with Cantabria, has highlighted that the actions developed by this institution "reinforce the tourist offer of the region and also contribute to the conservation of our heritage, to the boost of the local economy and to the generation of employment."
"Cantabria is a privileged destination, and the commitment of Paradores to modernize and improve its facilities here, with a global investment of 14 million euros, is great news for the sector, a further incentive to visit our Community," he said.
The two paradores located in Santillana del Mar are being the subject of a significant investment, with an economic injection between the two of 8.2 million euros.
In fact, Raquel Sánchez has taken advantage of the visit to Cantabria to also visit this Cantabrian town and supervise the works of the Parador de Santillana del Mar. The president explained that this ambitious intervention, amounting to 7.2 million euros, contemplates a comprehensive reform that includes the improvement of the thermal envelope (carpentry and roof) and the renovation of the facilities for the reduction of the carbon footprint. Also improvements in the accessibility and suppression of architectural barriers, and in habitability and comfort, which will lead to the increase of the current hotel rating from three to four stars. In addition, an important redecoration project will be carried out. With all this, and thanks to the impetus given to the works last year, the forecast is to reopen it in the summer of 2026, as announced by the president.
In the case of the historic Parador de Santillana Gil Blas, located in the same town, 1 million euros will be invested to carry out a decoration project and the installation of a chiller, with an investment of approximately one million euros, the connection of which is expected by 2026. Also, given that its two buildings are classified as Cultural Interest Property (BIC), Turespaña has put to tender the drafting of a Conservation Master Plan, with a budget of more than 158,000 euros and an estimated period of 11 months.
Finally, in the Parador de Fuente Dé, located at the foot of the Picos de Europa, important reforms are also being carried out with a budget of 4 million euros. Ongoing activities include a project to make more rooms accessible. For the period 2025-2027, it is planned to replace the exterior carpentry of the main building, the change of pipes, fancoils, production and BMS or new textiles in the common areas and rooms.
