The delegate of the Government in Cantabria, Eugenia Gómez de Diego, has claimed this Friday the role of unionism in the defense of labor rights and has called to strengthen its presence in the new scenario of the labor market, while highlighting the "commitment" demonstrated by the Government of Spain with workers with measures such as labor reform, the increase of the minimum wage and the revaluation of pensions.
He did so at the XV Regional Congress of UGT Cantabria, where Mariano Carmona was re-elected as general secretary of the union, in a conclave in which the general secretary of UGT, Pepe Álvarez, participated.
During his speech, Gómez de Diego stressed that "trade unionism falls in love" because "the possibility of helping people falls in love". In her speech, the delegate stressed the importance of the trade union movement in the fight for better working conditions and highlighted the role of the Government of Spain in the approval of measures such as labor reform, the increase of the interprofessional minimum wage and the revaluation of pensions.
"Who will not fall in love with those who demand decent wages, who want to make time for life with a fairer working day, who denounce painful working conditions and bet on healthy work environments? ", said Gómez de Diego.
He also warned of the "difficult historical moment" that the country is experiencing, with "the rise of the reactionary multinational and the most furious right", and urged the unions to continue practicing a "brave and modern" trade union, capable of facing challenges such as robotization, artificial intelligence or the energy transition.
In this regard, he assured that the Central Executive "has demonstrated its commitment to workers" and has reaffirmed the support of the Government and the Government Delegation in Cantabria to trade unionism "to dialogue, collaborate and promote policies for the benefit of the working class".
