The Government delegate in Cantabria, Eugenia Gómez de Diego, held a working meeting on Tuesday with the President and Secretary General of the Spanish Committee of Representatives of People with Disabilities (CERMI), Elisa Irureta and Sergio Olabarría, to advance universal accessibility and improve public services aimed at people with disabilities. The Secretary General of the Government Delegation, Consuelo Gutiérrez, also participated in the meeting.
During the meeting, Gómez de Diego invited CERMI to transmit proposals, suggestions and complaints related to public services, with the aim of promoting the improvement in the accessibility of public service spaces.
In this regard, Gómez de Diego pointed out that the Government Delegation is preparing a prioritized proposal of actions to adapt these spaces to the needs of people with disabilities and ensure full accessibility.
“We want Cantabria to be a reference in universal accessibility. To do this, we need to listen to the people and entities that know this reality the most,” said the delegate.
Likewise, Gómez de Diego has requested the collaboration of CERMI to identify possible improvements in the electoral processes.
Regarding the initiative 'The Administration near you', the delegate has offered to CERMI to carry out specific training in the centers and entities that make up the organization. This program, which was launched two years ago, has toured the smallest municipalities of the autonomous community, already benefiting a thousand people. In its new phase, in addition to continuing to carry out actions in the municipalities of the region, the Delegation is expanding the scope of the program to institutes and social entities, in order to bring the procedures and procedures of the General Administration of the State closer to a broader and more diverse public.
Gómez de Diego has very positively valued the meeting, stressing the importance of collaboration with entities such as CERMI to ensure an alignment between the strategic objectives of this organization and the operational goals of the 2025 Action Plan of the Ministry of Territorial Policy and Democratic Memory. This plan has as a priority to offer an accessible, inclusive and close to all people administration.
“Working together will allow us to ensure that our public services are truly accessible to everyone, without exception. We want to build an inclusive, quality and close administration,” said the delegate.
