The Government delegate in Cantabria, Eugenia Gómez de Diego, and the mayor of Val de San Vicente, Roberto Escobedo, inaugurated on Wednesday the works to improve road safety on the N-621 road as it passes through Molleda, an action financed by the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility with a budget of 263,432.55 euros.
The works have had as their main objective the redefinition of the intersection in T between the N-621 (P.K. 186.500) and the CA-841, improving left turns by including central speed change lanes. This intervention seeks to ensure greater safety for both vehicles and pedestrians passing through this area.
During the inauguration, Gómez de Diego highlighted the commitment of the Government of Spain to improve infrastructure and road safety in Cantabria, both through the large works that involve millionaire investments and in other actions that have a smaller budget but that have an importance in the daily lives of citizens.
“The work done is an example of how investing in small actions can make a big difference in people’s daily lives,” said the delegate, who congratulated the technicians and companies involved for the “excellent finish” of the works.
For his part, Escobedo has stressed the importance of this work for the neighbors of Val de San Vicente, "by facilitating a safer and more accessible mobility in the environment of Molleda". Thus, he expressed his satisfaction that the Ministry has responded to a project very demanded by the Consistory, and that would benefit not only the people and the Molleda valley but also other nuclei such as Prio.
Safe pedestrian steps
Among the actions carried out, the construction of about 300 meters of sidewalk on the right side of the road, which connects with the intersection with the N-621a, stands out. This new infrastructure incorporates a drainage system with a drain trench and concrete mixer to improve the hydraulic conditions of the track.
On the left side of the road, another sidewalk has been built, facilitating the safe crossing of pedestrians through overpasses with speed reducers. In addition, the access to the Vega has been relocated, moving it outside the intersection, and the platform of the road in front of the bus stop in the direction of Potes has been expanded, improving the accessibility of public transport.
The performance is completed with the refurbishment of the green areas located on the left side of the N-621.
