The Government delegate in Cantabria, Eugenia Gómez de Diego, highlighted on Saturday the key proposals presented by the Government of Spain during the twenty-seventh Conference of Presidents, held in the Palacio de La Magdalena, highlighting their usefulness to advance in the most urgent challenges of the country.
In a statement, Gómez de Diego stressed that this meeting, chaired by Pedro Sánchez and with the participation of King Felipe VI, has served to strengthen the co-governance model and propose concrete measures for the benefit of the citizens, in addition to having had historical importance with the participation of all the regional presidents in an act of institutional normalization.
In this way, the delegate has highlighted the "active and constructive" role of the Government of Spain, which "put on the table useful proposals and key initiatives to face challenges such as access to housing or strengthening the health system," she said.
Among the proposals put forward by the Executive of Pedro Sánchez during the Conference, Gómez de Diego has highlighted measures such as the shielding of the public and social character of housing financed with public resources, the acceleration of urban plans through a reform of the Land Law, and the objective of reaching a public housing park of 20%, in line with several European countries.
He has also highlighted other initiatives such as the convening of a Fiscal and Financial Policy Council in early 2025 to address a debt relief for the autonomous communities, which will free up more resources to enhance public services; the reform of article 35 of the Law on Foreigners to respond to the border territories; a multilateral agreement for a new model of autonomous financing, and an investment of 223 million euros in artificial intelligence applied to health, in addition to the reinforcement of funding for new positions of doctors.
Faced with this, the delegate questioned the participation of the regional president, María José Sáenz de Buruaga (PP), whose contribution has been "null". "Acting Cantabria as a hostess, she has missed an historic opportunity to have played an important role. However, their participation has been limited to confrontation and to reading the Genoa argument, leaving aside the search for solutions to the real problems of the citizens," he said.
Finally, Gómez de Diego thanked all the personnel of the State security bodies and forces, as well as the local police and all the professionals who have ensured the security of this Conference that has been held without any incident.
He also valued Pedro Sánchez's commitment to Cantabria, recalling that "his government has once again complied with Cantabria and with its promise to hold this important meeting in the community."
