The Government delegate in Cantabria, Eugenia Gómez de Diego, participated on Tuesday in a minute of silence in front of the headquarters of the Government Delegation as a sign of condemnation of gender violence and a sign of solidarity with the victims and their families, especially for the recent murder of Celeste, 46 years old, in Seville.
This crime, which occurred last Saturday, November 23, brings to 41 the number of women killed in 2024 for gender violence in Spain, leaving 32 minors orphaned so far this year. Since 2003, 1,286 women have been murdered by their partners or ex-partners, a reality that the delegate has described as "unacceptable in a democratic society."
The event took place in coordination with the Ministry of Equality and other government delegations throughout the country, which have reaffirmed their commitment to move towards a society free of male violence. In addition, the availability of resources such as 016 and the ALERTCOPS application to provide help to victims and alert them to situations of danger has been recalled.
"Despite the negationist approaches to male violence, we will persevere and continue to move towards a more just, egalitarian society free of male violence. ", said Gómez de Diego.
