The Government delegate in Cantabria, Eugenia Gómez de Diego, visited today the rehabilitation works with energy efficiency criteria in 122 homes in the neighborhood Cajo-Las Casas de la Renfe, financed with 2.1 million euros through the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan promoted by the Government of Spain with funds from the European Union.
During his speech, Gómez de Diego highlighted the “unprecedented commitment” of the Executive chaired by Pedro Sánchez for the rehabilitation of homes in the region, which has involved the transfer to the Government of the Autonomous Community of 45 million euros for the rehabilitation of a thousand homes in the region. “Never before has any government in Spain transferred so much money to Cantabria for housing policies,” he said.

“The Government of Spain’s commitment to rehabilitation policy is a success and we are convinced of it,” said the delegate, who has listed the benefits of these actions, which include increasing comfort in homes, saving energy bills and reducing CO₂ emissions.
European funds reach people and companies
Gómez de Diego highlighted that, in addition to the homes in Cajo, another 144 in the Barrio Obrero del Rey, in Santander, are also benefiting from this rehabilitation effort, which represents a tangible improvement in the neighborhoods and for hundreds of families. “They are positive, useful and necessary policies and a further sign that European funds are reaching people, companies and entities,” he said.
The delegate also pointed out the economic and social impact of these projects, which not only improve the urban environment, but also "dynamize the local economy and generate employment".
Finally, Gómez de Diego mentioned the collaboration between administrations and the commitment of the Government of Spain to dedicate a significant part of the resources of the Recovery Plan to housing rehabilitation and urban regeneration, through component 2 of the plan, Law 10/2022 and the promotion of rehabilitation offices. "We must continue with this commitment and continue to develop useful policies at the service of the people," he concluded.
